Community batteries coming to Manningham
… Community batteries coming to Manningham We’re installing 3 new community batteries to capture and store renewable energy, so we can power our facilities more sustainably.  On this page … and Sustainability … Community batteries coming to Manningham …
Article Content

We’re installing 3 new community batteries to capture and store renewable energy, so we can power our facilities more sustainably.

This is one step towards our goal of achieving zero emissions for Manningham Council by 2028 and for our community by 2035.

Community battery benefits

These batteries – at Mullum Mullum Stadium, MC Square and Manningham Council Depot – will deliver:

  • lower emissions
  • a more stable grid
  • backup power to the site during an outage

How do community batteries work?

Community batteries store extra solar power from that site and release it when demand is high.

This keeps the grid reliable, which will become increasingly important as more renewable energy powers our community.

When will construction begin?

Construction will begin in October 2025, with all 3 batteries switched on by March 2026.

How will this impact me?

Compact and quiet, these batteries won’t disrupt your power supply or services.

Victorian Government funding

The battery at Mullum Mullum Stadium is made possible thanks to $227,636 in State Government funding, as part of the 100 Neighbourhood Batteries Program.

Learn more

Join our free information session in March 2026 to learn how these batteries work, why they matter and how you can be part of the clean energy future. Details coming soon.

As gas prices increase and more people are looking at ways to reduce their carbon footprint, the transition to an all-electric home is both financially appealing and a sure way to take action against climate change.

This information session will help you understand:

  • economic and environmental benefits of reducing your household gas (and fuel) consumption
  • steps to creating an efficient, all-electric home that can accommodate electric vehicles in the future
  • ways to power your home with renewables, if your household is not able to have solar
  • your eligibility for the wide range of rebates

All Manningham residents who attend on the night will go into the draw to win a Virtual Home Energy Assessment worth $225!

This phone assessment will be tailored to your household, helping you to plan for a cost-effective and comfortable transition away from gas. We may contact the winner to check on progress in both reducing bills and making the home more energy efficient.

To attend this event, you must have an internet enabled PC or device and be able to download Zoom. Don’t have Zoom? Download it for free. You’ll be provided with the Zoom meeting link when you book.

This free information session is brought to you by Manningham and the Australian Energy Foundation. If you're unable to make the session, you can still learn more about how to keep your home cool while saving energy on the Australian Energy Foundation website.

This event is for Manningham residents only.

Apply to park a heavy vehicle on private residential land

Find out how apply to park a heavy vehicle on private residential land. ...

The current Local Law regulates the parking of an oversize vehicle on private residential land.

In certain circumstances a Permit may be issued to the owner or the occupier of the land to permit parking.

The purpose of the permit assessment is to ensure that the oversized vehicle does not impact on the amenity of the area, neighbouring properties, public safety or cause damage to Council assets.

Prior to approval being granted a number of considerations will be assessed.

When applying for a permit, provide as much information as possible why consideration should be given.

Can I park my truck on residential land?

Without a permit, you cannot park your vehicle on residential land if:

  • it is in excess of 4.5 tonnes, or
  • it is longer than 7.5 metres

The Manningham Community Local Law 2023 Clause 26

  • The Manningham Community Local Law 2023 Clause 26 states that the owner or occupier must not, without a permit, keep or allow to be kept, a vehicle that has a gross vehicle mass of in excess of 4.5 tonnes or together with any load or projection, measures 7.5 metres or more in length on residential land. This does not include a caravan.

How can my school get involved?

Schools can sign up for the following programs and events.

Eastern Alliance for Sustainable Learning (EASL)

Manningham Council is a member of the Eastern Alliance for Sustainable Learning (EASL). EASL provides professional development, learning and networking opportunities for early years, primary and secondary schools. Events run throughout the year, including the Learning for Sustainability Conference held in March.

Register for the annual Learning for Sustainability Conference.

Resource Smart Schools Program

Get involved in the Resource Smart Schools Program, run in Manningham by EASL. This free program can help your school embed sustainability into everything you do, including ways to promote biodiversity, minimise waste, save energy and water, and take action on climate change.

Sustainability and Environmental Education Day

In 2025 we are piloting a new program for Manningham primary schools, Sustainability and Environmental Education Day (SEED).

This program will be an incursion, and will cover four themes of biodiversity, composting, waste and Traditional Owner education. The program includes both theory and hands on activities to enable students to gain a practical understanding of sustainability initiatives within their local context. The program is free of charge for schools and lead by Council Officers and in partnership with the Wurundjeri Corporation Education Unit.

Lead to Sustain Conference

Bring your students along for a day of discovery and education at Currawong Bush Park.

The Lead to Sustain Conference offers young people in our community the opportunity to learn how to lead the implementation of sustainable actions for the benefit of our local community. The conference includes activities dedicated to supporting biodiversity and ecology, saving water, reducing waste, recycling and reducing energy consumption.

This conference is designed to follow on from the SEED program and provides a day of celebration for the students and schools that participated in SEED.
