Why recycle food waste?

Food waste can seem dirty, smelly or off-putting, but it is an incredibly valuable resource that is packed with nutrients that plants need to thrive. Recycling food waste at home is not only beneficial for your garden but also fosters a deeper connection to your environment and what you consume.

While your FOGO bin is perfect for keeping your food and garden waste out of landfill, recycling it yourself at home is easy and cost effective as you spend less on commercial fertilisers and soil conditioners.

Do you live in a high fire risk area?

If your bin collection day is on a Friday, then you live in a designated high-fire risk area.

We postpone waste collection in these areas on catastrophic days - this is not the same as a total fire ban day. If this occurs, leave your bins out until they are collected.

How to place bins out for collection

Place your bins out the night before and bring them in by the end of your collection day.

Present your bins

National Recycling Week, established by Planet Ark in 1996, is held every year during the second week of November.

Excessive consumption is a key driver of environmental change. It points to the need for increased understanding of the environmental impact of everyday items and how we can alter our behaviour and choices. Making our households and communities sustainable will enable us to adapt to a carbon constrained world.

  3. Book a hard rubbish collection

  4. Book a place at our next Waste Drop Off Day event.

Fight food waste: Scraptastic cooking
… Fight food waste: Scraptastic cooking Waste and recycling Did you know that Australian households send …

Did you know that Australian households send approximately 250kg of food to landfill every year, and that food waste is one of the top three producers of carbon emissions in the world?

It makes sense to change our food waste habits if we want to reduce our overall carbon footprint. The good news is that a little bit of creativity with your ‘scraps’ can have a huge impact.

Join permaculture and sustainability educator, Anna The Urban Nanna, to learn why and how to flip your relationship with food waste for good, by adopting ‘scraptastic’ approaches in the kitchen.

This free face-to-face presentation will help you learn how to make the absolute most of your weekly shop to not only reduce your food waste output, but also reduce your shopping bill too. The presentation includes an in-depth exploration of scraptasatic cooking options and ideas; a presentation table/display of various scraptastic creations; and examples of useful books and resources to help you get the most out of your scraps.

This session includes tasting samples, so please specify any allergies at the time of registration.

Registration is required and spots are limited.
