First EV charger location confirmed: Bulleen Car Park
… Bulleen Car Park We’re excited to announce the first public electric vehicle (EV) charger location: Bulleen Car …
Article Content

UPDATED: Public electric vehicle (EV) charger location updated on Tuesday 6 May to reflect revised project timelines.

We’re excited to announce the first public electric vehicle (EV) charger location: Bulleen Car Park.

About the charger

Planned for installation in June 2025, this charging station is part of a broader rollout of nine public EV chargers across Manningham.

Powered by renewable energy, this Jolt fast charger is compatible with all EVs. It will provide 7 kWh of free daily charge (up to 50 km of range), with additional charge ranging from 54 to 59 cents per kWh, depending on the location.

There will be one charger, servicing two parking bays.

Following engagement with the local businesses, this location was selected for its proximity to commercial, recreational and tourist destinations, as well as its access to reliable power supplies.

Why we’re supporting EVs

By installing these charging stations – and the six more to follow – we aim to accommodate the growing use of electric vehicles, especially following new legislated vehicle standards.

We’re also responding to community support for local public charging facilities, as revealed in our 2023 Manningham community survey.

The public charging network will help ensure that EV charging is accessible and practical while also reducing our transport emissions, boosting local businesses with enhanced car parking, and supporting EV drivers to travel with confidence.

Creative Age Programs: for Carers
… until 3 April 2025. Transport option are as follows: Public Transport Train (Hurstbridge line) to Heidelberg …

Everyone has the capacity for creative expression and enjoyment.

Heide’s Creative Age Programs are designed specifically for people living with early stage dementia and their Carers to discover their creativity through the non-verbal avenue of art, and to promote health and wellbeing. Heide’s Creative Age programs are kindly supported by the Phil Taylor Foundation.

The sessions run from 1:30pm each Thursday until 3 April 2025.

Transport option are as follows:

Public Transport
Train (Hurstbridge line) to Heidelberg station and bus #903 (Mordialloc bound) to Heide. Disembark at the Bulleen Road/Manningham Road stop. Estimated bus travel time is 5-10 minutes. Walk to Heide through Banksia Park, via the pedestrian path next to the Helmet sculpture on the corner of Bridge Street or by walking North on Bulleen Road and entering via the upper car park.

Bicycle
Heide is located next to Banksia Park near the Main Yarra Trail. From Southbank, this 33km bike trail passes ancient gums and billabongs before ending at Westerfolds Park in Templestowe. With a flat grade and good quality track, this trail makes for an enjoyable experience and a truly ‘green’ way to travel to Heide.

Car
Free parking available on-site and additional parking available in adjoining Banksia Park (enter via 5 Templestowe Road)

Bus / coach parking
The parking at Heide is not suitable for buses so we advise bus and coach drivers to park in the bays on Templestowe Road, immediately preceding the entrance to the museum at 7 Templestowe Road (alongside picket fence).

Improving drainage and flood mitigation

We’re undertaking drainage works and upgrades across Manningham to reduce flood risk.

We prioritise drainage works by considering:

  • knowledge of local flooding and relative impacts compared with other locations
  • the scale of the required works
  • asset condition records and maintenance history
  • community feedback
  • the timing of other proposed works, including roadworks.

Project timeframes may be impacted by various factors like major road projects or large-scale developments across Manningham.

Find out about the latest drainage projects in Manningham.

Flood and stormwater management

We’ve partnered with Melbourne Water to undertake flood mapping for Manningham, to better understand flood risk.

This work will assist flood management by:

  • improving understanding of the frequency, severity and location of flood risks within catchments
  • assisting Council to better plan and prioritise mitigation activities
  • helping to plan for future development
  • building community awareness of flood risk
  • informing emergency management planning.

The Manningham Flood Mapping Project will also inform the development of Manningham Council’s Integrated Water Management Strategy.

This strategy will review flooding and stormwater management risks and respond to emerging challenges, including:

  • population growth
  • development pressure
  • climate change and associated increasing flood and drought risk.

Find out more.

A new Stormwater Management Strategy for Manningham

We’re developing a Stormwater Management Strategy to help identify, manage and reduce flood risk to people, property, infrastructure and the environment.

The Strategy will guide our planning and investment in the long-term Capital Works Program to support a healthy, safe and resilient community.

Textile _Temporalities
… University of Melbourne. She has recently exhibited at the Public Records Office, Melbourne; Five Walls Project Space, …

Textile_Temporalities is an exhibition and series of workshops that explores and reflects on the temporal nature of craft practices, human connectedness, and sites of intimacy. Led by artist Shannon Slee, whose practice investigates the role of discarded clothing to connect with personal and social histories, our small gallery will be showcasing a range of recent works from the artist and a special participatory artwork made in collaboration with older people in Manningham, developed over a series of interactive workshops. Visitors to the gallery will also have the opportunity to get involved through a textile inspired activity.

Artist Biography
Shannon Slee is a visual artist living and working in Narrm. Her practice engages with the handmade to consider intimate moments of connection within the flexible aesthetic of textiles. She explores practices of reusing, sewing, spinning, and weaving, with a particular interest in how craft modalities distort time, invite tactile engagement, and evoke memory. Through her work, she investigates rhythms of making, and the narrative and emotions embedded in material processes.

In 2024 she was awarded a Masters of Contemporary Art from the University of Melbourne. She has recently exhibited at the Public Records Office, Melbourne; Five Walls Project Space, Melbourne; Linden Project Space, Melbourne; fortyfive downstairs, Melbourne; Australian Tapestry Workshop, Melbourne and George Paton Gallery at the University of Melbourne.
