Our purpose

Through innovation and technology, our Liveability, Innovation and Technology (LIT) Committee aims to:

  • improve liveability
  • public value.

By connecting people, places and assets.

 

Our role

Our LIT Committee is represented by a councillor and community members who meet the following criteria:

  • have an interest and knowledge in innovation and technology and how it applies to liveability
  • live or work in Manningham
  • can regularly attend and participate in meetings
  • has skills that compliments the committee.

 

Who are our members

If you meet the above criteria, you can nominate to be a community member on our LIT committee for a three year term.

We'll choose cross section of the community that best represents our diversity.
 

Unfortunately, we are currently not taking nominations. Follow our news channel and local media for when we advertise calls for nominations.

 

When do we meet?

LIT meets at least four times a year, on a quarterly basis.

 

What is the appointment process?

  1. We will advertise calls for nominations in local media and on our news channels.
     
  2. From the nominations received, we will select community members who best meet the selection criteria to join our committee for three years. Members can renominate to join the committee after their term ends.

The Liveable City Strategy 2040 (LCS) is Manningham’s 20-year plan to improve the liveability of our municipality, from our urban/suburban neighbourhoods to our rural areas.

The LCS will help shape the future of the municipality over the next 20 years and ensure Manningham will continue to evolve as a liveable, resilient, and desirable place to be.

 

Strategic direction

The strategy covers the following key directions:

  • vibrant activity centres
  • thriving employment
  • housing choice and distinct communities
  • greening our city
  • sustainable transport and travel mode choice
  • building social and cultural connections. 

The LCS focuses on:

  • creating vibrant activity centres and community places
  • encouraging jobs growth in the suburbs
  • providing housing and transport choice
  • protecting Manningham’s valued landscape character.

Importantly, the LCS provides a plan for every neighbourhood as well as our activity centres.

 

Key concept

A key concept in the strategy is ‘Living locally - 20 minute neighbourhoods’ which is a core principle of Metropolitan Melbourne’s Plan Melbourne 2050. 

The aim of a '20-minute neighbourhood’ is to create a place where people can meet most of their daily needs within a 20-minute walk from home, with safe cycling and local transport options.

 

Community engagement

The LCS was created following feedback from Imagine Manningham 2040 (IM2040) – an extensive community engagement project undertaken in 2019 that captured the views of a wide cross-section of Manningham’s diverse and varied community.

Our role and purpose

The Manningham Disability Advisory Committee is a group of local people with lived experience of disability. 80% of members identify as having a disability and 20% are carers for people with disabilities.

The committee provides advice and support so people with a disability have a voice in their local area. The committee will help shape our future and provide authentic access that is inclusive to all. This includes:

  • Building the capacity of Council to understand and respond to the needs of people with disability and their carers by providing an authentic voice of people with lived experience of disability.
  • Developing the capabilities of Committee members, through an understanding of the environment and processes of local government, so that they can contribute constructively as well as support their employment, education and civic engagement aspirations.
  • Honouring Council’s commitment to key Council policies and strategies including the Council Plan and Health and wellbeing Strategy.
  • Advising on the development and review of key Council strategies, policies and plans.
  • Assisting Council to meet its legislative requirements as it relates to inclusion of people with disability.

 

Who are our members

The committee consists of:

  • people with lived experience of disability
  • people who identifies as Deaf/deaf or Hard of Hearing
  • people who lives with mental illness.

No matter your age, gender, employment, cultural background or sexual identity, we welcome all. Contact us to see if there are any places available.

 

When do we meet

There will be four meetings throughout the year. Access support is available and members can attend remotely.

Our purpose

The Open Space and Streetscape Advisory Committee provides strategic advice on open space and streetscape issues.

Our role

The objectives of the committee is the promotion of our open spaces and streetscapes to ensure that they’re:

  • accessible
  • well designed
  • properly managed.

Who are our members

Our community members will be residents and also have:

  • demonstrated interest in open space or streetscape issues
  • personal, professional and community networks
  • an understanding in strategic decision making
  • prior experience working on committees.

One community member will have open space planning qualifications. While, 2 members will have proven knowledge of managing, planning and use relating to Ruffey Lake Park.

Membership will be up to 3 years and advertising for nominations will be in the Manningham Leader.

There’ll be up to 7 community members on the committee.

When do we meet

We meet quarterly.

Our presenter Lucinda is an experienced home energy efficiency assessor. She's visited hundreds of homes to help people develop a roadmap towards lower energy bills and greater comfort in all seasons. 

Topics include:

  • how heat moves in and out of your home  
  • staying warmer in winter and cooler in summer
  • choosing efficient and affordable appliances
  • habits and behaviours to make your home more liveable
  • government freebies, rebates and financial incentives.

You'll leave with fresh ideas and an upgrades roadmap to help you achieve greater comfort and lower energy use – long into the future.

The session is suited to anyone looking for simple, practical ways to save money, reduce their environmental impact, and improve the liveability of their home. 

Registrations are essential.

Increasing pedestrian movement

We plan the construction of our city’s footpaths, shared paths and trails by identifying the routes that pedestrians use more often on their journeys.

We use community feedback and other key areas to identify this network and locate where new footpaths are needed and plan for their construction.

Works to build a new footpath are prioritised by:

  • the pedestrian demand
  • the type of road
  • its location relative to various facilities within the community
  • the proximity to public transport. 

Timeframes for new footpath projects can be affected by factors such as major road projects or large scale developments throughout Manningham.

Our Social Planning and Community team work across departments, with Manningham’s libraries and leisure centres to strengthen inclusion of all Manningham residents. 

Contributions from those who are interested in disability services and initiatives within Manningham are welcome. Manningham community members who have a disability are also invited to share their experiences to better inform Council policy and practice.
