Article Content

Our community panel came together for the first time on Saturday for the first of six and half day’s deliberation.

The Panel recruitment started with 8000 envelopes sent randomly to local households. Of those who accepted the invitation, a second random draw resulted in the final 40 people chosen. This second draw was ‘stratified,’ set up, so people chosen were representative of Manningham by age, gender, location, living situation and the language spoken at home.

This will be our most significant deliberative engagement to date, with the panel set to play a crucial role in shaping our major strategic plans.

Here’s some feedback from two panel members after day one:

“I was surprised when I got the invite but said to myself, I have grandchildren and what better way to leave a legacy for them but to have a say into shaping Manningham.”

“I am from an accounting background so especially interested to look at Council’s financial documents and exploring that side of the process.”

You can also participate in the deliberative process by registering to be an observer. Observing the process means that you can form your own assessment of the merits of the deliberative approach.

The 5.7 hectare Ted Ajani Reserve provides sporting, recreational and meeting facilities for Bulleen and Lower Templestowe residents and the wider community. The reserve offers facilities for tennis, cricket, football, scouts, community groups, two community halls, and a children’s playspace, and as such is very densely developed.

Ted Ajani Reserve also plays an important role in the network of pedestrian links and safe crossing points over major roads, with links to the south via David Road to the Manningham Road pedestrian overpass, and an off-street link to the Thompsons Road pedestrian crossing. It is important to ensure that the link between David Road and Manningham Road is retained into the future.

Ted Ajani playspace

Located on Hazel Drive, the playground is accessible to the surrounding local residents.  Play opportunities include a combination unit with a track glide and slide plus swings and a see-saw. Check out the exciting balancing and rotating play equipment suited to older children.

Suitable age group: 1-14 years

Exercise equipment

The outdoor exercise equipment was installed in partnership between Council and the Victorian Government to encourage residents to get active in their local parks in Manningham. The equipment is easy to use and has been designed for adults of all ages and fitness levels. Some of it has been designed by physiotherapists to improve the health and well being of older adults to prevent falls and maintain independent living, by improving their balance, hand eye coordination and movement in the joints such as shoulders, wrist and fingers. The equipment is available everyday for community use.

Report a barking dog
… out what to do if a barking dog is being disruptive to the community. Pets registrations Report … Report a barking dog …

Barking dogs can be disruptive to the community. Dogs often bark because they are bored, lonely or frustrated due to lack of exercise and mental stimulation.

Keep track of the barking as we may ask you to keep a diary of the frequency of the noise.

Before you report a barking dog to us, try speaking to your neighbour to resolve the issue first. Often they may not know their dog is barking.

How to report an issue

  1. Prepare the following information before you report:
    • The breed or type of dog (if you are aware).
    • The location of the issue.
    • The date and time of when the issue occurred.
    • Historic details leading up to you reporting this issue.
    • Your contact details.
    • Other details that will help us with your specific issue.
  2. Report the issue to us

You can make a report online, in person or over the phone.

What happens after you have reported an issue?

  • We will contact the dog owner and provide information to help reduce the barking.
  • We will ask you to keep a diary for a few weeks to monitor the frequency of the barking.
  • We may also contact other neighbours to get their perspective on the barking.
  • If barking persists and we deem it to be unreasonable, we may take legal action.
