Low Waste Comfort Food

Join Scott Hitchins as he returns to the Strathdon kitchen to create some of our, soon to be hot favourite, comfort dishes.

With a focus on low waste cooking, Scott will teach participants the techniques to create delicious winter warmers using every bit of what you grow or buy.

The focus in this session will be on using vegetables from the garden and an overview for slow style cooking that you can try at home.

You will be provided with a sample of what is cooked on the day and digital notes to try some of Scott’s recipes at home.

What to wear: Suitable clothing for getting your hands dirty in the kitchen and closed toe shoes.
What to bring: an apron (optional)
Who: Adults or teens

About Scott

He has qualifications in biological science, permaculture design, education, and is a founding member of Werribee Park Heritage Orchard.

Scott has been providing popular workshops and garden-design advice to local councils, schools, and other community groups for many years.

He presents useful facts and skills in a fun and engaging manner. To quote Scott in a recent interview “Get me talking about sustainable gardening and you’ll never shut me up.”

Every planning permit issued within Doncaster Hill will include conditions for the submission of a Sustainability Management Plan (SMP) which achieves best practice outcomes. The SMP addresses a range of matters including water, energy and indoor environment quality.

With respect to water, it is a permit condition that the development must connect to Yarra Water’s recycled water and meet our stormwater objectives.

Property purchase sets the stage for new community house
… of its planning for a new Park Orchards Community House and Learning Centre. On this page All News … Property …
Article Content

We have signed the contract to purchase 576-578 Park Road, Park Orchards as part of its planning for a new Park Orchards Community House and Learning Centre.

A priority action in our Community Infrastructure Plan, discussions and advocacy have already commenced for the replacement of this popular neighbourhood house and it is hoped that this significant investment will be the catalyst for investment from other levels of government.

Our Mayor, Deirdre Diamante, said the existing community house needs replacing to bring programs and services together.

"The Community House is widely used and offers a variety of programs and services in learning, fitness and art for all ages, and includes a well-loved childcare facility.

“The current building is coming to the end of its useful life, has limited accessibility and is too small to cater to all programs. These limitations have resulted in programs moving to different locations and spread across multiple local venues.

“By bringing these programs together into one building with better access and more space, we can improve efficiency and better support the community’s growing needs.”

The location of the new property, adjacent to the existing Community House at 572 Park Road, will allow for more space for the variety of programs on offer.

“Located in the heart of Park Orchards, as part of a community and education precinct and near public bus transport, the site will maintain convenient access to childcare, schools, recreational areas, and shops.” Cr Diamante added.

The purchase of 576-578 Park Road is part of our long-term planning to replace this important neighbourhood house for Park Orchards.

Neighbourhood houses are predominantly funded by government grants and additional state and commonwealth government funding will be needed to deliver this new community facility.

“We have purchased this property as part of our long-term plan for the community house and local area. We’re pleased to be able to secure a site for a new centre in Park Orchards and will continue to advocate for State and Federal funding to deliver it.”

The purchase was funded by our Strategic Fund which is part of our 10 Year Financial Plan 2024/25 to 2033/34.

Manningham Council property purchase sets the stage for new community house

Main Yarra Trail Extension: Stage four works to begin next month

Construction to upgrade the footpath along Taroona Avenue in Warrandyte will begin in November 2024. ...

Article Content

Construction to upgrade the footpath along Taroona Avenue in Warrandyte will begin in November 2024.

The new concrete path is part of the four-stage Main Yarra Trail Extension project. It will link the Main Yarra Trail, Mullum Mullum Trail and Eastlink Trail – connecting Warrandyte to the CBD.

In response to community feedback, the final design includes a footpath instead of the originally proposed shared path. The path will extend the full length of the eastern side of the road, with a sandstone kerb to complement the area's natural character.

These works will be completed ahead of stage three, which includes the section from Pound Road to Taroona Avenue.

We have revised the design for this stage to better align with the environmental requirements and invite feedback at the upcoming community consultation sessions in November 2024.

The latest project updates are available at Your Say Manningham - Main Yarra Trail Extension.
