Learn the unique art of Chinese brush painting with our experienced teachers.

In this class you will learn:

• basic brush strokes
• brush loading techniques
• the use of Chinese ink and colours on rice paper.

Activities will include a series of practical exercises before completing small paintings on three main themes – flowers, birds, fish and landscapes.

The class is suitable for beginners and continuing students. No experience required. All adults aged 55 years and over are welcome to attend.

Please note: students need to supply their own materials.

This is a great opportunity to meet new friends and improve your health and wellbeing while connecting with others in your community.

The class is run by CASS Care, a non-profit organisation, providing aged care services in Sydney and Melbourne.

Learn how to build a frog pond/bog with local ecologist and frog expert David De Angelis.

David will discuss how you can construct a frog pond/bog at home that is ideal for local frog species.

Attendees will get a head start with a range of free indigenous habitat plants from the Friends of Warrandyte State Park Nursery. They will be there to assist you with water and pond fringing plants.

David De Angelis is a local naturalist, environmental educator, and consultant with interests in the ecology and conservation of frogs, and citizen science. Most of David’s work is done with ABZECO, La Trobe University’s Wildlife Sanctuary and Holmesglen Institute. He is also on the committee of Frogs Victoria.

This event is part our Manningham Spring Outdoors Series, where we offer a range of fun outdoor activities across Manningham.

About Nina Gbor
As the founder of Eco Styles, Nina Gbor is an award-winning sustainability advocate, ethical fashion speaker, climate activist, writer and educator. 
Nina has a master’s degree in International Development and is a former sustainable fashion tutor in short courses at RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia. She coined the phrase ‘get off the fashion trendmill’ which means individuality and self-knowledge should be the premise for consuming clothing, not fashion trends.

Maroondah City Council is hosting this event in collaboration with Knox City Council, Whitehorse City Council, Yarra Ranges Council, and Manningham Council.

Manningham Art Gallery presents two exhibitions of tactile, abstract works that recontextualise commonly encountered materials, celebrating the everyday and unpredictable process driven experimentation. 

Anni Hagberg’s Trace Encounters employs foraging practices, ceramic processes, and experimental installation to explore uncertainty as a contemporary human condition.

Rejecting linear understandings of progress, foraging practices embody a sense of agnostic curiosity. Opportunistically engaging materials, which present themselves within the environment through the process of being discarded by one and found by another, foraging encourages lively interaction with the environment.

Rhys Cousins work homes in on otherwise ordinary and ignored surfaces that one might expect to encounter on any given day. It acknowledges life as complex sensory jigsaw, but deliberately strips away the smells, sounds, language, and colour of that puzzle to explore only touch and the external physical qualities of the myriad materials that make up the urban places we live.

Examining the importance of touch as a physical and emotional experience - helping us to make sense of the world, the work also highlights how texture is made as much through presence as absence, with the solid bumps and ridges in a surface playing as great a role in creating its overall texture as its voids, crevices, nooks, and cracks.

Cousins and Hagberg’s works are activated across Gallery 1 and 2.

Join us and learn more about new public art in Doncaster and take part in an all-ages art activity.

As part of the Ayr St South shopping strip upgrade, a ground mural will be designed and installed by artist Tom Civil.

Tom will share his designs at Greythorn Bowls Club in an information session for the community, where you can meet the artist and discuss his ideas.

The information session will be followed by an all-ages art activity, where you will design your own footpath mural. Use the materials provided to work collaboratively, or own your own to create an artwork for your street.

• Information session / meet the artist: 11.00am to 12.30pm
• Art Activity: 1.00pm to 2.30pm

About the artist

Tom Civil is an artist, muralist, community art facilitator and printmaker. 

Tom has been making art in the streets of Melbourne for over 18 years, and has painted over 30 commissioned murals across town in the last ten years.

Tom's ground artworks reference through the language of mapping and symbology, our connection to nature in a heavily urbanised and concrete and asphalt covered world. The ground artworks also allow us to day-dream about how the places we live were in the past, and how they could be in the future. They also create fun interactive play moments in our daily lives.

About the Men's Table

The Men’s Table creates a unique environment for men to share openly about their lives with other men.

The Men’s Table creates a sense of belonging, community, peer support and camaraderie that is lacking for many men, even for some who already have a group of mates.

The Men’s Table began in 2011 with 12 men who have met once a month for dinner and has since become a national charity and grown to 59 tables across Australia.

This evening will give you an insight into what it is like to be part of a Men’s Table and how it benefits the community as a whole. We’ll also provide details on how to join a Men’s Table for those men interested in joining.

This event is running all throughout spring!

Get involved in our community frog monitoring program, and collect data to help us manage frog populations and raise awareness of waterway health issues.

The Frog Census Program collects frog data from community members who record their calls at a local waterway. This data is added to the Atlas of Living Australia and the Victorian Biodiversity Atlas and is used to manage the health of Melbourne’s rivers and creeks.

In recognition of Dementia Action Week, you’re invited to a free Dementia Awareness Community Seminar at Manningham Uniting Church and Community Centre.

This session will provide valuable insights and resources for people living with dementia, their care partners, and the broader community. 
Together, we’ll foster greater understanding and support meaningful social connections.

During the session we will hear from Anita Koochew from Eastern Community Legal Centre, Dr Kate Lawler (Physiotherapist) and Dr Courtney Shelton (Geriatrician and Research Fellow).

Afternoon tea will be provided.
 

Carers Saturday cuppa and chat is a chance for all people who are currently caring for people with disability and mental health to reconnect and find support over a free cuppa.

The session will be facilitated by Dr Nakisa Malakooti.  Dr Malakooti is a carer and a neuroscientist and has lived at Manningham for the last 27 years. She is a strong advocate for carers, disability, mental health and those with dementia.

Greythorn Bowls welcomes you to a free family and friends fun day.

Come along for fun bowls activities for all the family to enjoy together, including:

• barefoot bowls and games
• live music from the 60s, 70s and 80s
• face painter, slushies and fairy floss 
• sausage sizzle

This event is suitable for all age groups.
