The Get Active Victoria voucher program aims to help eligible families and their children get active in sports and recreation by reimbursing the cost of membership and registration fees.

The Get Active Kids Voucher Program has delivered over 147,000 vouchers to eligible families to date!

The vouchers can help pay for sporting equipment, uniforms, and memberships in a range of activities from cricket to dance.

This initiative is part of Get Active Victoria’s efforts to inspire all Victorians – regardless of age, ability or location – to move more, every day.

Applications open October 2024. To find out more about the voucher program and how you can apply, visit Get Active Victoria.

Information for providers

Approved Activity Providers can receive vouchers from their members and then redeem the cost from the government.

Local community groups, sporting clubs and not-for-profit organisations are set to share in more than $290,000 through Manningham’s Annual Grant Program.

Grant applications open on Monday 3 February and eligible local groups can receive between $3,001 and $20,000 in funding.

Mayor Cr Deirdre Diamante said the program helped fund local initiatives, projects and activities that made a positive impact in Manningham.

“These include a wide range of community-driven projects such as arts, festivals and events, wellbeing programs, as well as inclusive and multicultural activities,” Cr Diamante said.

“We want to support our outstanding local organisations who do a wonderful job in helping make Manningham a vibrant, connected and inclusive community for all.”

Grants are available in the following categories:

Community Development
Arts
Festivals and Events
Healthy Ageing.

The Manningham Toy Library was one of last year’s successful recipients. The library received a grant to support its free 40th Anniversary Messy Play Day.

Toy Library Coordinator Anlina Jones said the event will be a wonderful way to showcase the benefits of the group to the Manningham community.

“We love running messy play events, but it can be costly purchasing the equipment required, so this grant was such an amazing opportunity for us. We can really celebrate the 40 years of play at the toy library,” Anlina said.

Applications for Manningham’s Annual Grant Program are open until 5.00pm, Tuesday 11 March.

To assist groups with their applications, Council will host the following information sessions:

Grant Writing Workshop, Wednesday 12 February, 10.00am to 12.00pm, Manningham Function Centre.
Healthy Ageing Grant Information Session, Thursday 13 February, 11.00am to 12.00pm, Manningham Function Centre.
Online Q&A session, Wednesday 19 February, 4.30pm to 5.00pm.

Walking basketball is aimed towards getting our senior community and those with lowered mobility due to injury, illness, recovery from surgery or rehabilitation, involved in low impact basketball.

The program is a fun and engaging and will give participants a chance to socialise and be active at the same time, usually with a lot of laughter!

A size five ball is used with lowered and modified rings. The program caters for all levels of walkers, including those with walking aids and limited mobility.

Program details

sessions will go for 60 minutes and morning tea will be provided afterwards
the program will run for six weeks on consecutive Thursday mornings
sessions will be held on the white court at Sheahans Road stadium.

A new Active Manningham program is providing life-saving water safety skills to adults from our multicultural community who have little or no swimming experience.

Eighteen people recently graduated from the first round of the 10-week Safely Engaging with Water Program at Aquarena Aquatic and Leisure Centre in Templestowe Lower.

Manningham Mayor, Cr Deirdre Diamante, attended the final session and celebration event, presenting certificates to the successful participants together with Dr Harpreet Singh Kandra, who helped develop the program with Aligned Leisure.

The program creates a safe, inclusive environment for adults from multicultural communities to learn about water safety and develop basic swimming skills. It aims to help participants overcome fear and anxiety associated with water while reducing the risk of drowning.

Cr Diamante congratulated the graduates for taking the important first step of learning to swim.

“Water safety is such a valuable life skill. I’d like to thank Dr Kandra and Aligned Leisure for making this life-saving program available to our multicultural community,” Cr Diamante said.

The program offers subsidised male-only and female-only sessions with experienced instructors of the same gender during quieter off-peak times, providing a more comfortable learning environment for participants.

“It’s been great value and I’ve learnt so much,” one participant said of their experience.

“The instructor is amazing and has been teaching us very well,” another participant said.

This program will also support people to build their skills and confidence to be able to include bike riding in their everyday life, for example riding to school.

When

Each Monday between 22 April and 27 May 2024 (six week program).

Cost

$90 or participants can use NDIS plans to pay for the program.

Beginners (Level 1)

This level is designed for those who are new to bike riding or those who have been riding with training wheels. Focus areas will be balancing, pedalling, steering and braking.

If your child is a more advanced rider, register for the Level 2 (intermediate) program instead.

Support staff

We recommend all participants have someone with them at the program to support their development one-on-one.

Please note that support staff are not organised through this program. Should participant support be required, please organise this through a disability service provider (such as Leisure Networks).

What to bring

Participants are encouraged to bring their own bike and helmet. If this is not possible and you require access to equipment or you are unsure what level would be appropriate for your child, please phone Tori on 0434 412 989 or email tori.honner@leisurenetworks.org.

This level is designed for those who are confident riding but need to refine their skills. Focus areas may be controlling/turning, braking, scanning, gear changing and hazard awareness. Participants will also get the opportunity to learn new BMX skills and ride on the BMX track.

If your child is a less experienced rider, register for the Level 1 (beginner) program instead.

Each session will have a maximum of 10 participants with two coaches.

Support staff

We recommend all participants have someone with them at the program to support their development one-on-one.

Learn to ride a bike during this 6-week introductory riding program for women, female-identifying and non-binary riders who are 20 plus years old.

The program focuses on skill development, developing fitness and helping you make riding a bike part of your everyday life.

Follow the lead of accredited AusCycling instructors and increase your bike confidence and skills in a supportive, safe, off-road and friendly environment.

This program is suitable for people who don't know how to ride, and for people with some basic riding experience.

If you don’t have a bike or helmet, we'll hire these for you! Just make sure you select bike and helmet hire when registering for the program.

Where to meet: at the car park area to the left of the Mullum Mullum Stadium entrance.
What to bring: Your bike and helmet if you have them, and a water bottle.
What to wear: Comfortable clothes and closed-toe shoes.

We encourage mums or anyone who wants to enjoying keeping active in a fun social environment to come and join us.

Manningham United typically runs a weekly Soccer Mums program. The program is overseen by Natalie one of our board members and coached by Penny and Mel. Each week up to 50 mums get together to have fun, socialise and participate in some soccer basics to some pumping music!

There is no skill requirement, all you need is runners, a drink bottle and an appetite for fun.

No registration required.

Street sweeping

Under the Road Management Act 2004, we are responsible for street sweeping on local roads within Manningham to remove a build-up of fallen leaves and rubbish.

Why do we need street sweeping?

Street sweeping prevents the influx of leaf fall and litter from entering the underground drainage system potentially causing blockages, subsequent flooding and damaging the environment.

Litter not collected often ends up washing into open watercourses and into local creeks and the Yarra River.

Sweeping also benefits the overall amenity of the street, removes the build-up of dirt and leaves and reduces weeds along the kerb and channel.

What areas does Council sweep?

Council is responsible for maintaining 608km of local roads within Manningham.

Our street sweeping program includes:

sealed roads with kerb and channel
car parks and underpasses
laneways and footpaths within Council maintained shopping precincts.

The Department of Transport and Planning (VicRoads) is responsible for maintaining the arterial road network.

When is street sweeping done?

Street sweeping is run throughout the year to keep our streets clean. We increase the frequency in a number of streets during Autumn when there is more leaf litter on the roads. Shopping precincts and key locations are given high priority.

When to enrol your child

Manningham Council does not manage a central enrolment service. To enrol your child, contact the enrolment officer at the kindergarten of your choice or the childcare centre of your choice .

Children who need additional support

Funded kindergartens have several programs for children and families that need extra support. This can include a children who:

require extra support in kindergarten
have communication difficulties
are experiencing emotional or social issues
are displaying challenging behaviour
exhibit developmental delay
have a disability (conditions apply for children linked with NDIS or early intervention services).

Preschool field officer program

The state government funded preschool field officer program can help a child that needs extra assistance. If they’re attending a funded kindergarten program, they can get support that includes:

observations of developmental concerns after receiving referrals from parents, guardians or teachers

assistance in developing tailored programs for children with additional needs
support and info for families of children with additional needs
connecting with community agencies and professional groups in early intervention services
providing support to kindergarten staff with extra resources and training
assistance in assessment and applications for a second year of funded kindergarten, if required.

Inclusion support program

The inclusion support program aims to grow the capacity of education and care services to include all children. Delivery of the program is by the community childcare association, in partnership with KU children’s services and Yooralla. This agency is the Victorian Inclusion Agency.

The Ready Set Go, Let’s Move program covers:

what could be stopping you from being more active
your personal step-by-step plan of action.

You’ll also get a booklet with exercises you can do at home with minimal equipment. So, don’t wait - get ready, set, go!
