From exploring a Passive House to hearing from energy-efficient experts at our Inspired Living event, May is jam-packed with sustainability events!

Attend one of our free events

We’re kicking our sustainability month off on Thursday 1 May with an Inspired Living Series panel on the exciting future of electrification.

The panel will feature leading energy efficiency voice, Tim Forcey, CEO of Beyond Zero Emissions, Heidi Lee, and Get Off Gas founder, Brendan Lang.

During May, we’re also running free webinars, events and information sessions to help you move towards an all-electric, energy-efficient home.

Explore the options below – and register today.

See incredible electric homes

Sustainable House Day is happening on Sunday 4 May – it’s an annual event and opportunity to explore some of Australia’s most impressive eco-friendly homes.

There is one open home in Warrandyte: The Panel House. This all-electric certified Passive House – which runs off stored water – features a green roof, a 20kW solar PV system, efficient lighting and appliances, smart home features and much more.

In surrounding areas, you can visit the Electric Alistair Knox home in North Warrandyte and the Eltham Town Treehouse.

Tickets are $9.50 for adults, $6.50 for Concession Card holders and free for under 12yrs old or those with a Carer’s Card.

Can’t make it? Explore the video tours of more than 230 sustainable homes across Australia.

Free in-person events

Our library drop-in sessions will continue in May. If you have questions about going all-electric or being more efficient at home, drop in and talk to a Council staff member in Warrandyte.

Or come along to our expert workshop series at Doncaster Library and take a deep dive into Hot Water Heat Pumps and Reverse Cycle Air Conditioners.

Access webinars at a discounted cost

During May, Sustainable House Day will continue the conversation by running a webinar series on sustainable homes.

Featuring expert speakers, the series will empower homeowners to build, renovate or simply replace old appliances and move towards a more energy efficient and sustainable home.

Manningham residents can access a 50 per cent discount on a webinar Series Pass.

10 Year Financial Plan
… on the Council Plan and build a financially sustainable organisation. Tags About Council Strategies, Plans and …

Our 10 Year Financial Plan 2024/25 to 2033/34 provides a financial road map for the future. Adopted at the 25 June 2024 Council Meeting, the 10 Year Financial Plan ensures we deliver on the Council Plan and continue to be a financially sustainable organisation.

Highlights of the 10 Year Financial Plan

  • Provides the long-term financial resourcing for the future to build a better Manningham.
  • Provision of funding to deliver on a range of key strategies and initiatives such as community health and wellbeing, our parks and public spaces, road maintenance and footpaths, the environment and waste and storm water management, support for local businesses including the introduction of a co-working business hub, a youth hub, and increased community grant funding to support community led initiatives.
  • We will deliver on our Climate Emergency Action Plan to reduce the impacts of climate change. We have allocated $11 million in our capital works program over the next ten years for Circular Economy (Sustainability) initiatives.
  • A commitment of $1.69 billion of operational expenditure over 10 years (an average of $169 million per annum) to deliver more than 100 services for our community.
  • The delivery of a 10 year Capital Works Program of $549 million (an average of $55 million per annum) to renew and enhance Council’s $2.7 billion of community assets. This program focuses on core infrastructure such as footpaths, drainage, roads and open space and will enhance the liveability and amenity of our municipality.
  • The Capital Works Program is in addition to the $247 million over 10 years (an average of $25 million per annum) to maintain our important community assets included in our operating budget.
  • A significant allocation of funding in the Capital Works Program for major projects including the construction of major community and recreational facilities. These projects will be funded primarily from Council’s Strategic Fund.
  • Average forecast general rate increases in line with the State Government’s rate cap/forecast CPI.
  • Despite the challenging economic environment, we have continued to focus on ongoing financial sustainability through innovation and efficiencies, and containment of expenditure at less than inflation. We are also seeking alternative sources of income to reduce the dependence on rate income, such as ensuring that we strategically unlock the potential of our assets to enhance our financial sustainability.

Strategic Property Portfolio

The Strategic Property Portfolio (SPP) makes up part of the 10 Year Financial Plan by contributing to Council’s vision of being a financially sustainable organisation. Adopted at the 25 October 2022 Council Meeting, the Strategic Property Portfolio intention is to acquire property that will strategically enhance opportunities for development and community enhancement.

The SPP vision and principal:

The Strategic Property Portfolio will provide the City of Manningham with an additional funding source to enhance services and associated infrastructure for the benefit of the community.

Contribute to an alternative income stream to achieve Council’s mission to be a financially sustainable Council.

Want to be able to garden without spending a fortune? Maria Ciavarella from My Green Garden will show you how to utilise things you already have to garden and save money.

During this seminar you will discover innovative ways to create a sustainable garden without breaking the bank. Maria will share tips and tricks to help you save money while still achieving a beautiful and eco-friendly garden.

This session will cover how to:

  • repurpose everyday items
  • recycle organic waste
  • make the most of your garden space.

Whether you're a seasoned gardener or just starting out, this event is perfect for anyone looking to embrace sustainable practices and save money in the process.

As a special treat, all attendees will participate in a tomato seeding activity with a heritage or heirloom seed variety from the Bulleen Art and Garden range.

The community food, seed and garden swap takes place at 6.45pm, 15 minutes before each session.

Registration is recommended but not required.

This event is part of our Inspired Living Series. This series showcases an exciting range of fun and sustainable activities and events for all ages, supporting sustainability at home, in the community and at work.

Please note: registrations are required for this event.

IDAHOBIT is internationally recognised as May 17.

Power 2 Pedal is a fun and welcoming program, delivered in a safe environment where kids and teens with autism will learn and develop their bike riding skills.

This program will also support people to build their skills and confidence to be able to include bike riding in their everyday life, for example riding to school.

When

Each Monday between 22 April and 27 May 2024 (six week program).

Cost

$90 or participants can use NDIS plans to pay for the program.

Beginners (Level 1)

This level is designed for those who are new to bike riding or those who have been riding with training wheels. Focus areas will be balancing, pedalling, steering and braking.

If your child is a more advanced rider, register for the Level 2 (intermediate) program instead.

Support staff

We recommend all participants have someone with them at the program to support their development one-on-one.

Please note that support staff are not organised through this program. Should participant support be required, please organise this through a disability service provider (such as Leisure Networks).

What to bring

Participants are encouraged to bring their own bike and helmet. If this is not possible and you require access to equipment or you are unsure what level would be appropriate for your child, please phone Tori on 0434 412 989 or email tori.honner@leisurenetworks.org.
