Have your say on the Road Management Plan 2025
… Have your say on the Road Management Plan 2025 We’re reviewing our Road Management Plan to ensure local roads remain well-maintained, … On this page Wards All News … Have your say on the Road Management Plan 2025 …
Article Content

We’re reviewing our Road Management Plan to ensure local roads remain well-maintained, safe and functional for everyone.

Manningham’s Road Management Plan (RMP) sets our responsibilities, standards and procedures for managing our road network, which consists of more than 680 kilometres of local roads.

The plan doesn’t include the management of road safety issues or the maintenance of trees, vegetation, nature strips or private assets, such as vehicle crossings.

Proposed changes to the Road Management Plan

As part of our review, we’re proposing some updates to the RMP, including clear, concise language and a streamlined format, consistent with the latest industry-standard template from the Municipal Association of Victoria.

These changes aim to make it easier for you to understand our road maintenance standards and what you can expect from our services.

Our Mayor, Councillor Deirdre Diamante said community feedback will help ensure the revised plan responds to emerging needs and priorities.

“Maintaining our roads and footpaths is one of Council’s most important services – helping keep our community safe and connected,” Cr Diamante said.

“I encourage all residents to share their feedback to help us create a plan that will deliver outcomes that matter most to our residents,” she said.

Have your say

You can review the revised Road Management Plan online, or in person at the Manningham Civic Centre at 699 Doncaster Road, Doncaster.
Have your say before 5.00pm on Thursday 17 April 2025, through:

  • an online form at Your Say Manningham.
  • mail submission addressed to Manningham Council, Andrea Szymanski, Manager Infrastructure and Sustainable Operations, PO Box 1, Doncaster 3108
  • email at manningham@manningham.vic.gov.au.

All submissions will be considered before the revised RMP is presented to Council for adoption.

Protecting our waterways

Developing long-term sustainable solutions to managing water supply and protecting our waterways. ...

Water is one of our most precious resources. Together, with our partners and community, we are developing long-term sustainable solutions to managing our water supply and protecting our waterways.

Why water management matters

Sustainably managing water supply and improving waterway health is essential for:

  • helping our ecology thrive in a changing climate
  • reducing pollution from stormwater
  • protecting our community's health and wellbeing.

The Burndap Birrrarung burndap umarkoo (Yarra Strategic Plan)

In Manningham, the Yarra River (Birrarung) is instrumental to our landscape and community. For Wurundjeri people, the river, known as Birrarung, was the life source and an important meeting place.

Burndap Birrrarung Burndap Umarkoo means “what is good for the Yarra is good for all” in the Woi-wurrung language.

To better manage and protect the Yarra River, the State Government developed the Burndap Birrrarung burndap umarkoo (Yarra Strategic Plan), in collaboration with the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation and 15 state and local agencies.

This 10-year plan seeks to manage and protect the Yarra River and its parklands as one living and integrated natural entity.

The community is invited to have their say on local dog and cat management, which will inform Manningham’s Domestic Animal Management Plan (DAMP) 2026-2029.

Manningham Mayor, Councillor Deirdre Diamante said the success of the plan relies on the community sharing their insights around issues, priorities and opportunities to improve animal management.

“This plan is crucial to addressing community concerns, while also playing a key role in creating a safe and healthy community for both people and animals in Manningham,” Cr Diamante said.

The DAMP will provide a framework for how Council manages pets and supports their owners. Residents are invited to provide feedback on several key areas, including:

  • Registration and identification of dogs and cats
  • Nuisance dogs and cats
  • Dog aggression and attacks
  • Dog walking in Manningham
  • Lost and found animals

“Research has consistently shown that pets have a profound impact on people’s lives – increasing their sense of safety, social connections and improving their owner’s health and wellbeing.

“We all love and cherish our pets, who bring endless joy and companionship to our daily lives.

This is your opportunity to have your say on what matters most to you,” Cr Diamante said.

Have your say

Have your say by filling out the short survey at yoursay.manningham.vic.gov.au/damp.

Survey opens Monday 2 June and closes 5.00pm, Sunday 29 June.

Your feedback will help inform the draft Domestic Animal Management Plan 2026-2029, which will be open for community consultation in August 2025.

All Victorian councils are required to develop a plan every four years under the Domestic Animals Act 1994.

Pound Reserve
… Crown Land and while Council is not the Committee of Management Council does undertake basic maintenance such as …

Pound Reserve was the site of Council’s animal pound until the 1960s. It is unreserved Crown Land.

The northern half of the reserve supports Yellow Box with a few Black Wattles (Acacia mearnsii) and Shiny Cassinia (Cassinia longifolia). There is less diversity in the ground storey and natural regeneration is occurring. The mature Yellow Box  in the southern half of the reserve attracts a range of bird life when they flower over summer, including the annual migration from Tasmania of the endangered Swift Parrot (Lathamus discolour). Parties of Swift Parrots have stayed in the area feeding on the trees for days at a time.

Seeing small birds visit our gardens is a wonderful experience and there are many ways we can create our gardens to encourage their visits.

This workshop will share some of the challenges small birds face in the urban environment and what can be done to create a safe and inviting home for them.  A few of the local small bird champions will also be introduced and the session includes tips for providing food, shelter, water and breeding sites to create habitat for birds.

Presenter: Charlotte Harrison from Sustainable Gardening Australia.

Supper is at 6.45pm, the seminar begins at 7.00pm sharp.

Registration is essential.

This is the final session of a four-part series on Gardening for Biodiversity. The series of workshops is run by Sustainable Gardening Australia and provides tips and tricks to garden for wildlife and support biodiversity in your local area.
