To help you remove garden waste to prepare for bushfire season, you can drop off either one car boot, station wagon, ute or a 6‘x4’ level trailer load of garden waste on certain dates throughout the year.

Who can use this service?

You need to live in a Bushfire Prone Area to use this service. We will ask you to show proof of residency (either a driver's licence or rates notice) at the check-in point on the day. If someone else drops off the garden waste for you, make sure you provide them with your proof. 

If you are not eligible for this service or have excess garden waste to dispose, you can:

• order an additional garden waste bin for spring
• book a bundled branches collection
• take it to a local transfer station.

Carers Saturday cuppa and chat is a chance for all people who are currently caring for people with disability, illness, mental health issues and/or ageing to reconnect and find support over a free cuppa.

The session will be facilitated by Dr Nakisa Malakooti.  Dr Malakooti is a carer and a neuroscientist and has lived at Manningham for the last 27 years. She is a strong advocate for carers, disability, mental health and dementia patients.

During this in-person session, consultants will teach you an evidence-informed sleep and settling model of care.

• Ways to deal with sleep difficulties
• Information about your wellbeing.

There will be time at the end of the session for you to ask questions about your specific situation.

In addition to the sessions, we are proud to provide an outreach service for interested parents. Speak to our Sleep and Settling Specialist at the end of the session for more information.

Only parents who attend Manningham Maternal and Child Health service are eligible for this service.

Sessions are also available for older babies and toddlers.

• the free national screening programs

Content is particularly relevant to those up to 75 years of age, however all welcome.

A judgment-free space to learn how to better support LGBTQIA+ youth in your life.

An Allies session aimed at parents, carers, families, teachers and others to build their understanding of LGBTQIA+ youth experiences. The session will give participants the opportunity to ask questions, without judgement, and show them ways to be a better ally to the LGBTQIA+ community.

This session will be facilitated by Dr Tina Dixson (she/her) and Kochava Lilit (they/them) from Women’s Health East.

About the session

Topics covered include:

• building belonging, practical allyship for thriving LGBTQIA+ youth 
• information for carers, parents, grandparents, family, teachers and other allies in the community 
• increasing knowledge of sexual, gender, and bodily diversity and equipping participants with strategies to support LGBTQIA+ youth to flourish socially, emotionally, and personally 
• how to have conversations about topics like gender, sexuality and consent in a respectful and affirming way, and how to speak up for and with LGBTQIA+ young people as effective allies 
• practical advice, with a focus on listening to and understanding LGBTQIA+ young people and forming stronger community connections 
• practical tools to foster belonging and build stronger connections with LGBTQIA+ youth, recognising their diversity.

About the facilitators

Dr Tina Dixson (she/her) is a queer Ukrainian feminist, academic, and social policy professional who sought asylum in Australia with her partner, Dr Renee Dixson. She has worked across LGBTIQA+ equality, refugee protection, and gender-based violence. Tina completed her PhD at the Australian National University, exploring the lived experiences of queer and trans refugee women. She co-founded the Forcibly Displaced People Network, Australia’s only national LGBTIQA+ refugee-led organisation.

Kochava Lilit (they/them) is a queer Disabled advocate and educator who has worked in queer, trans, and youth peer support and advocacy spaces. Kochava is the project coordinator for Get the Go-Ahead at Women’s Health East, an affirmative consent education project codesigned by a group of disabled Young Experts. Get the Go-Ahead includes resources on discussing consent, relationships, and sexuality with young people and shares experiences from LGBTQIA+ Disabled young people.

The Equiculture program is loved by horse owners throughout Australia (and beyond) as an evidence-based approach to keeping horses and land healthy.

• horse health, behaviour and welfare
• grazing management for pasture and soil health
• managing equine obesity and laminitis
• manure and parasite management
• property designs for healthy horses and healthy land
• reducing farm labour to increase quality time with your horses.

What you will learn

Practical land management advice for horse owners.

Tools and ideas to implement sustainable horse property management strategies.

It can be fun to plan an overseas holiday where you set your itinerary. Sometimes you don't want to be stuck on a bus and herded like cattle when you travel. You want to be free and tailor your own schedule. 

These two 2.5 hour informal sessions will explore how to plan, book and enjoy an overseas vacation when you want to do your own thing. 

We will explore how to go about this complicated exercise including:

• what to plan
• how to estimate the cost, and zoom in on the actual cost through the process
• when to use a travel agent and when not to use a travel agent
• economy versus premium economy versus business class – air travel
• fly/drive versus bus tours
• consideration of train travel versus car versus bus for medium distances
• travel insurance
• difference between travelling to Europe, USA and Asia – language, culture and cost
• using money overseas
• internet and phone access
• planning for medication
• and much more depending on where the discussion and questions take us.

The session will be guided by an experienced overseas traveller and is not commercially motivated. 

The main focus of the sessions will be to answer questions in advance of your proposed planning and travel – especially if you have not travelled internationally or not travelled for many years.

Precious Plastic Monash are a group of students from Monash University and part of the worldwide Precious Plastic community their goal is to tackle and provide solutions to the ever-growing presence of plastic pollution.

Our primary focus areas are education, community, and design. We achieve this goal through our machines, products, and events.
