There’ll be three live talks and a panel on during the event. Topics include:

• Navigating the NDIS, with Christine Scott from VALID
• An easy guide to the Social Model of Disability, with Mark Glascodine
• Inclusive fashion, with JAM the label
• A panel discussion about barriers and enablers to access and inclusion, with the Manningham Disability Advisory Committee

Art exhibition, in the foyer  

Art by world renowned artist with disability, Alan Constable, in the foyer of the Civic Centre. This exhibition will run from 17 November to 17 December.

This is a mask friendly event and includes a quiet space. 

A 6 week art therapy group for kids in grades 5 and 6, who have experienced or witnessed family violence.

Making art can help us to tell our stories and make sense of our experiences. Plus, it is a fun creative way to get to know ourselves better as well as others in the group. Helping us to appreciate who we are, our special talents and gifts, and to see these gifts in others too.

Art therapy helps us to:

• express thoughts, ideas, and emotions
• manage difficult feelings, like anger and worry
• learn to problem solve and build resilience
• grow confidence and self-esteem
• improve social skills

A fun, safe and supportive space that encourages listening and caring.

Participation is free and all art materials will be provided. No artistic skills necessary!

Are you a not-for-profit group or organisation doing great work for older people in our community?

You could be eligible for our Healthy Ageing Grant which will provide between $3,001 and $20,000 in funding. Applications open on Monday 3 June and close Friday 5 July 2024. 

We encourage community organisation representatives to attend this information session which will cover:

Hear from expert Rodney Van Der Ree on local projects that are helping address the impacts of road and traffic on biodiversity, including fauna bridges, monitoring cameras and virtual fencing.

Manningham Council is actively working to reduce wildlife-vehicle collisions through installing canopy bridges and virtual fences. These measures aim to protect local wildlife by deterring them from crossing roads and providing safer pathways for movement.

You can also attend the Manningham Environment Seminar Series - Endangered Species of Manningham on Wednesday 24 September.

Shuttle Smash is an introductory program for children to experience badminton in a fun, inclusive environment. 

The program teaches children badminton through the development of fundamental movement skills, including co-ordination, flexibility, strength, balance and fine motor skills.

Council acknowledges that in the lead up to its general elections, it will not make any decision that would, or could be perceived to, inappropriately bind an incoming Council or affect the outcome of the elections.

Are you Procrastinating? by Carol Yang. 

Using waste produced by the fashion industry, Carol creates wearable and functional sculptures that highlights the procrastinator as the protagonist.

Carol’s work demonstrates the feelings and activities of procrastination visually in a humorous way, while exploring the emotional state of procrastination.

We acknowledge that racism continues to be a reality for many people in Victoria. This event provides an opportunity to hear from people who have explored this topic extensively with local communities, and those with lived experience.

Tackling Racism is an event to mark United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. Manningham Council has partnered with Victoria University on a project mapping racism where it occurs, understanding the reporting barriers and supporting the needs of people who experience it.

Come along to hear Dr Mario Peucker, Associate Professor and Principal Research Fellow, share his findings from the report. Lingzhi Ruan, from Womens Health East, will talk about their anti-racism project Taking Action to Combat Racism with Mandarin speaking women. The event will also feature a panel consisting of local community members and the Eastern Community Legal Centre sharing their insights and experiences on tackling racism and promoting equality.

Richmond Institute and Life Saving Victoria are running First Aid and CPR training for Manningham's sport clubs volunteers.

Suitable for those wanting to refresh their training or complete training for the first time.

Richmond Institute is the education arm of the Richmond Football Club and a leader in sports industry education. In 2020 Richmond Football Club formed a partnership with Life Saving Victoria (LSV) to deliver accredited training on their behalf to Richmond Institute staff and students.

Life Saving Victoria (LSV) is a registered training organisation regulated by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) approved to deliver nationally accredited vocational education and training services throughout Victoria. 

Together LSV and Richmond Institute work with communities, educational institutions, government agencies, businesses, and the broader aquatic and sport industry, to achieve our combined organisations’ visions and missions.

Join Nanna Anna to discover how small, simple changes in your everyday life can significantly reduce the amount of waste you produce.

Living a lower waste lifestyle is something that many Australians are keen to do, as it becomes increasingly obvious that our daily choices directly affect the environment. But when faced with the abundance of information available, it can be overwhelming to know where, and how, to begin.

This free face-to-face presentation is designed to help you explore ways to live a more low-waste lifestyle. It will cover practical examples of how to identify waste elements in your household; low-waste alternatives to everyday items and consumables; and different approaches to implementing low-waste strategies and habits in the future.

You can see first-hand how your food and garden waste is processed with the chance to ask questions along the way.

Community organisations are invited to attend a free grant writing workshop.

This session will support applicants intending to apply for a Community Partnership Grant 2026 - 2030.

This session will help grant writers to have a better chance of success in their grant applications.

It will cover:

• why communicating the value of your program or event is a good starting point
• understanding Community Partnership Grant priority outcomes and how your program or event will align with these
• being able to define your program or event and the benefit it will have for the community
• knowing what is great about your organisation and the reason a community group or non-profit can deliver this program?
• understanding grant eligibility and assessment criteria
• formulating a project plan and an evaluation framework
• preparing a budget

This session is suitable for organisations seeking funding through our Community Partnership Grant program 2026-2030.

Non Profit Training will deliver the workshop.

The Red Gum Café located in the Manningham Uniting Church and Community Centre, has now been accredited by Dementia Australia as being Dementia Friendly. 

The Red Gum Café has been established as an accessible and safe environment for people living with dementia, and their carers and families, with staff having successfully undertaken training to help people living with dementia to enjoy social and community connections. 

The café is open Tuesday to Friday, 9.00am to 3.30pm, and on Saturdays from 9.00am to 2.00pm.

A support group for carers assisting people living with dementia currently meets in the café on the first Friday of every month, at 1.30pm.

Please note: The Friday group is established and no new participants will be added. New additional meeting days and times will be arranged for those wanting to attend and connect.

Local dealerships and importers, as well as members of the Australian EV Association (AEVA) and EV owners, will bring along hybrid and electric vehicles for you to inspect and explore. 

The range includes Porsche, Mercedes, BMW, Mini, Subaru, Honda, Chery, GWM, Nissan, MG Ringwood, Toyota YV, Renault, EV Automotive van, Ford Mustang Ringwood, Tesla Owners Club, Peugeot Balwyn, BYD, Polestar, Volvo, Zeeker, and others. EV charging companies will also be on hand.
