Shelter your home: Garden design for home comfort and resilience
… are essential. Power up a cleaner future This event is part of our Electrify Your Life program, which …

Thoughtful garden design can lower indoor and outdoor temperatures while creating a more comfortable and resilient home.

Our city is getting hotter, with more days of extreme heat. Learn how to stay comfortable and safe – without racking up a huge power bill – by sheltering your home with trees and vines.

We’ll explore:

  • sun angles throughout the year
  • how to conduct a basic site analysis at home
  • how to select shade trees, vines and wind breaks
  • plant positions for summer shade while letting the winter sun shine through for free heating in the cooler months
  • practical solutions for renters.

Our presenter:
Kat Lavers is the gardener and designer behind The Plummery, a 1/14th acre urban permaculture system in Melbourne's north that produces almost all the vegetables, herbs, fruit and eggs consumed by the household! She’s realised that with good design, growing lots of food is possible even with limited time, space and resources.

Registrations are essential.

Watch this brand-new webinar by Psychologist and author Steve Biddulph.

Recorded in his home in Tasmania, Steve Biddulph presents a whole new way to understand your own mind and listen to its’ deep-down signals.

Described as therapy meeting neuroscience, this talk explores the new concept of ‘supersense’ – the feelings beneath our feelings. This concept helps guide parents to a more awake and free way of living every minute of their lives.

The webinar will cover the following:

  • Calming anxiety in parents and kids
  • Helping children manage their emotions well
  • How to know what is right for you
  • Being at ease in a difficult world

Become a scientist this spring and help our scientific community record valuable information about Platypi in Manningham.

PlatypusSPOT is a citizen science platform that gathers information from the community on platypus occurrence. Locals know their area and we want to tap into your knowledge. PlatypusSPOT brings together all that valuable information in one publicly accessible website.

Platypus are difficult to study in the wild and we know very little about how platypus populations are faring. Platypus and their habitat are vulnerable to a variety of natural and man-made threats that are increasing with climate change and population growth. Understanding the distribution and occurrence of platypus is essential to develop effective conservation strategies with waterway managers.

To participate in this event, download the PlatypusSPOT app on your device.
