Exercise – of course we all know it’s good for health, especially if you have diabetes. But knowing where to start and how to stay motivated can be tough.

This is where Ready Set Go, Let’s Move comes in. Get support and be empowered to take the first step in making exercise a part of your routine, or perhaps increasing the amount you are already doing.

The Ready Set Go, Let’s Move program covers:

the positive effects exercise can have on blood glucose levels
what could be stopping you from being more active
your personal step-by-step plan of action.

You’ll also get a booklet with exercises you can do at home with minimal equipment. So, don’t wait - get ready, set, go!

Bollywood Dance for Wellbeing is designed to engage the mind and body to improve and enhance mind-body health, focusing on breath, strength, flexibility and fitness. The program is based on the principles of neuroplasticity and the proven benefits of dance.

The sessions incorporate breathing techniques to calm the mind, and an exercise routine to develop strength, flexibility and fitness of the body.

It also includes creative dance and music from Bollywood dance to create a space to express yourself, as well as providing opportunities to make new social connections.

It is preferred that participants attend all sessions.

This program will involve progression over the 9 sessions, building on dance movements from the previous weeks to create and perform a final dance routine in the last session.

Who is it for? This is an adult/open program. All genders welcome - no previous experience is required.

What to wear? Clothes that allow you to move around easy and comfortable shoes.

What to bring? A water bottle.

Westwood Reserve has a been upgraded to include a playground in the reserve as part of the 2015/16 Open Space Development Program. Manningham’s Open Space Strategy 2014 recommends a variety of improvements and upgrades to public open space in Bulleen in response to changing housing types, an ageing population, as well as a new generation of young families moving into the area.

Places and spaces

Planting of canopy trees to provide shade
Low planting beds for colour, texture and nature play opportunities
A paved path to improve access for all abilities
Seating for resting and socialising in the reserve
A playspace, which will provide an engaging mixture of traditional play equipment, such as a play unit, swings and spinner, as well as nature based play opportunities
Landscaping, including rock river and timber logs for balancing
Improvements to the entrance, including new signage.

The playground complements other playspaces located nearby at Willow South Reserve, 350 metres away to the south and Timber Ridge, 650 metres away to the north-east.

A bold new initiative, PUBLIC VIEW, is inviting the community to experience art as part of daily life – transforming familiar urban spaces into outdoor galleries.

Manningham Mayor, Councillor Deirdre Diamante, welcomed the initiative as a meaningful way to reconnect with creativity, nature and one another.

“In the rush of daily life, it’s easy to overlook the beauty woven into our surroundings. PUBLIC VIEW invites us to find moments to pause, take notice and engage more deeply with the spaces and people around us,” Cr Diamante said.

“Bringing creative expression into everyday environments opens space for reflection and sparks curiosity. It’s a gentle invitation to connect in ways we often overlook,” she added.

The current exhibition, view of nature in art, selected works by Terry Napier is now on display at Tunstall Square in Donvale.

A celebrated natural history artist, Terry has lived in Park Orchards for more than 57 years and has been painting since childhood. Terry has works held in Victorian collections. Renowned for his contributions to art education and his intricate nature studies, Terry’s work encourages viewers to pause and observe the natural world around them.

“Exhibiting at Tunstall Square is another chance to show people the magic and beauty in nature – to share with them what intrigues me and perhaps remind them of what we are in danger of losing. Art in public spaces can be that reminder,” Terry said.

Congratulations to the winners of the Manningham Community Awards, which were announced on 16 September 2025.

The awards program celebrated individuals and groups who have gone above and beyond in making Manningham a better place to live, work and visit over the past 12 months.

The awards recognise achievements in 8 categories, with one of these category winners named Manningham Citizen of the Year.

More than 70 nominations were received for the 2025 awards, highlighting many outstanding achievements across the community. Thank you to everyone who helped shine a light on those who go above and beyond.

Leon established the Laughing All Abilities Really Friendly Singers (LAARFS). The choir, which meets weekly, has more than 70 members, who live with chronic conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, cancer and dementia.

Active Community

Recognising an individual or group who has contributed to community participation in active lifestyles, sports or physical activity.

Under the committee’s leadership, the club’s facilities have been transformed with upgrades including court resurfacing and new lighting. Membership has grown by more than 70% with expanded junior and senior competitions, veterans’ tennis and social play.

Recognising an individual or group who has contributed to enhancing the lives of older residents, fostering social connection, safety or active ageing.

Winner: Chinese Senior Citizens Club of Manningham Inc.

With more than 1000 members and 200 volunteers, the club is one of the largest in Manningham. It has delivered more than 60 free weekly classes, as well as educational talks, performances and major cultural celebrations over the past year.

A former Manningham Youth Advisory Committee member, Niosha is now a crisis supporter with Lifeline Naarm and has helped provide children’s spiritual education classes and inclusive school holiday festivals.

How are the awards judged?

Nominations were assessed against a set criteria and reviewed by the judging panel. This year’s panel included the Manningham Mayor, Director Connected Communities, the previous Citizen of Year recipient (in 2025 this will be the previous Manningham Civic Awards Citizen of the Year) and 2 members of Council’s advisory committees.

Eligibility and Terms and Conditions

Eligibility

To be eligible for nomination, the nominee must meet the following criteria:

The nominee must reside in Manningham.
Nominators must have the permission of the person/group they are nominating, prior to applying.
Previous recipients of the Manningham Community Awards, or preceding Manningham Civic Awards, are ineligible to receive the same Award within a 10-year period.
For the Manningham Young Achiever Award, the nominee must be under 25 years old on 30 June of the nominating year.
Manningham Councillors, Manningham Council employees, Manningham Council Programs and Committees, State and Federal politicians are not eligible, but are encouraged to nominate others.

Nomination Terms and Conditions

Self-nominations are accepted, however written references will be required to support the nomination.
Nominees can only be nominated once and in a single category. Nominations across multiple categories are not accepted. However, multiple supporting documents can be attached to the nomination.
All questions on the nomination form must be answered.
All nominators will be told the outcome of their application in August 2025, with each category having a maximum of three finalists.
The winner of each category will be amongst the notified finalists and will be announced at the Awards Ceremony in September 2025.
All finalists must be able to attend the Award Ceremony on Tuesday 16 September 2025.
Each finalist will be issued a complimentary ticket plus two tickets for additional guests (3 in total per finalist).
The winner of each category must be willing to share their achievements within the 12 months following the award, including promotional campaigns and photo opportunities.
The winner of the Manningham Citizen of the Year Award will be invited to join the assessment panel for the subsequent year’s awards.
Unsuccessful nominees and finalists may be re-nominated in subsequent years.

The decision of the judging panel is final, and no correspondence will be entered into in respect of the decision.

Awards selection criteria

Manningham Citizen of the Year Award

This award is not open for direct nomination.
The Citizen of the Year will be chosen by the judging panel from the winners of all other categories, excluding:
- The Manningham Community Excellence Award.
- Any category winner which was a group, not an individual.
The panel will assess each eligible finalist for their outstanding contribution to the Manningham community within the last 12 months.
This is an individual-only award.
There is no age limit on this award.

Doreen Stoves Excellence in Volunteering Award

The nominee must have demonstrated ongoing commitment to volunteerism over the past 12 months and reflect the values and dedication exemplified by the late Doreen Stoves AM PSM JP.
This is an individual-only award.
There is no age limit on this award.

Manningham Active Community Award

The nominee must have contributed to community participation in active lifestyles, sports or physical activity in Manningham over the past 12 months.
This is an individual or group award.
There is no age limit on this award.

Manningham Ageing Well Award

The nominee must have contributed to enhancing the lives of older residents in Manningham, fostering social connection, safety or active ageing over the last 12 months.
This is an individual or group award.

The Frog Census Program collects frog data from community members who record their calls at a local waterway. This data is added to the Atlas of Living Australia and the Victorian Biodiversity Atlas and is used to manage the health of Melbourne’s rivers and creeks.

We provide immunisations for babies, children and adults to keep our community safe and prevent the spread of infectious diseases.

Free vaccinations we offer

As part of the NIP we offer free vaccinations to:

Children 0 to 5 years
Secondary school students (years 7 and 10)
Catch-up vaccinations for anyone aged 0 to 19 years
Whooping cough (Boostrix) vaccine for pregnant women
Pneumococcal for adults over 65 years of age
Influenza for pregnant women, children under 5 years old and adults over 65 years of age.

We offer the following paid vaccinations:

Meningococcal B (MenB)
Meningococcal ACWY (MenACWY)
Chickenpox (Varicella)
Diphtheria, Tetanus and Pertussis (Boostrix)
Influenza (seasonal) for those between 5 and 65 years of age.

When to get immunised

The National Immunisation Program (NIP) lists vaccinations a person should receive from birth to adulthood.

Visit the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and the Sharing Knowledge about Immunisation (SKAI) to understand what vaccinations you should receive and when.

Visit the National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance (NCIRS) for reliable, evidence-based information about vaccination.

Get the flu vaccine

The influenza vaccination is free for:

pregnant women
children under 5 years of age
adults over 65 years of age
Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders aged 6 months or older
people aged 6 months or older with medical conditions putting them at increased risk of severe influenza and its complications.

If you are not eligible for a free flu shot, you can purchase the vaccine from us.

School immunisation sessions

We visit secondary schools in our municipality to deliver free vaccinations to students in year 7 and 10, under the NIP schedule.

ShopSmart covers:

healthy eating, as recommended by the Australian Dietary Guidelines
how to make decisions about the product, from the list of ingredients
how to make sense of the numbers in the nutrition information panel
how to choose foods suitable for you, based on a product’s nutrition information panel
what the glycemic index (GI) is and how to use it.

Learn to paddle and be safe on the water with the Paddle Power program!

All equipment will be provided.

These sessions are for primary school children aged seven to 14 years. All genders are welcome, no prior paddle experience is needed.

This activity will be delivered by Paddle Victoria qualified coaches and guides. All guides and coaches have a Working with Children Check and a First Aid Certificate.

These sessions are being delivered in partnership with Manningham Council and Paddle Victoria as part of the Birrarung Riverfest 2025. Celebrate our river at one of 60+ events hosted over three weeks from 6–28 September. Whether you enjoy riverside walks, cleanups, creative workshops or paddling adventures, there's something for everyone at Riverfest. Building on the information shared in the Community Grant Information Session and Grant Writing Workshop, this is your opportunity to ask questions about your grant proposal and receive constructive, unbiased feedback.

During the session, you’ll have a chance to discuss your ideas in a 1:1 conversation with a staff member from the Healthy Ageing Team. Our team will also emphasize the importance of aligning your proposal with our Healthy Ageing objectives.

Please note: it is expected you attend the Community Grants session and the Grants writing workshop prior to attending this session to best equip yourself with knowledge required to submit your application.

Who can attend: Maximum of two representatives from each organisation to attend
Cost: Free
What to bring: A pen, notepad and your ideas

Over a four-week program, participants will alternate between a Pilates Mat class and HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) classes.

Both sessions are suitable for beginners and advanced participants. Classes are run by a qualified Aquarena instructor.

These sessions are being run in partnership with Serenity for Women, Aquarena and Manningham Council.

Spots are limited so registrations are essential.
