Merna Reserve
… of Merna Drive and Church Street and across the road from Templestowe Park Primary School. Merna Drive Templestowe VIC 3106 Australia … Merna Reserve …

This small reserve is located on the corner of Merna Drive and Church Street and across the road from Templestowe Park Primary School.

It has the potential to function as recreational open space. While Mandella Reserve primarily services the school catchment with play and informal recreation opportunities, Merna Reserve could be enhanced with additional tree planting and some park furniture catering for parents waiting for school children.

The 2004 Open Space Strategy identified the Reserve as a potential area for planting new River Red Gums. A low brick wall framing the entrance to the residential estate occupies the corner of the Reserve.

Places and spaces

Highlights of the upgrade include:

  • a distinctive 20 metre-long snake sculpture which sits as the centrepiece and even glows in the dark
  • play equipment including a six-way swing set - the first of its kind in Manningham
  • multi climbing and slide unit
  • basket swing

Hollywood Playground located at the end of Hollywood Close, Templestowe, caters for children aged  2-9 years and offers traditional play equipment, picnic shelter, seating and a drink fountain. Nearby is a constructed wetland which provides habitat, landscape and water quality functions.

The play equipment is ageing and a recommendation of the Green Gully Management Plan 2014 is to relocate the playground to a more open and accessible area immediately north of Porter Street when it reaches the end of its useful life.

Marcus Reserve is close to Bulleen Heights Primary School and Marcus Road is part of a proposed on road bicycle north- south link between Bulleen and Templestowe Lower.

A Council drain runs through the Reserve and with its flat and attractive topography, the Reserve serves its function as ‘green’ open space in a residential area.  There are three playgrounds in this locality within a 300 metre radius.

Connecting our community through safe footpaths is one of the ways we’re building a better Manningham.

As part of our 2024/25 Capital Works Program, we’re constructing a new footpath on Porter Street, Templestowe, to improve accessibility and safety.

Works will include:

  • construction of a new footpath.

Where is it?

The footpath will be built on the northern side of Porter Street, between Anderson Street and McLachlan Street in Templestowe.

A map showing the location of the proposed footpath construction along Porter Street, Templestowe.

When will the works happen?

Construction is scheduled to begin in January 2025 and completed by March 2025.  Timelines are subject to weather conditions and contractor availability.

Why is the footpath needed?

This footpath will connect the existing footpaths on Anderson Street, improving pedestrian connectivity. The upgrade will provide a safe and accessible walking route to encourage healthier, more active lifestyles.

How will the works affect me?

The works will take place on weekdays during the hours of 7.00am and 5.00pm. There may be some construction noise and temporary disruptions to driveway access. We will contact the affected properties directly prior to construction.

We appreciate your patience and understanding while we work to improve the footpath connections in your area.

Ted Ajani Reserve
… recreational and meeting facilities for Bulleen and Lower Templestowe residents and the wider community. The reserve … and as such is very densely developed.  Thompsons Road Templestowe Lower VIC 3107 Australia … Ted Ajani Reserve …

The 5.7 hectare Ted Ajani Reserve provides sporting, recreational and meeting facilities for Bulleen and Lower Templestowe residents and the wider community. The reserve offers facilities for tennis, cricket, football, scouts, community groups, two community halls, and a children’s playspace, and as such is very densely developed.

Ted Ajani Reserve also plays an important role in the network of pedestrian links and safe crossing points over major roads, with links to the south via David Road to the Manningham Road pedestrian overpass, and an off-street link to the Thompsons Road pedestrian crossing. It is important to ensure that the link between David Road and Manningham Road is retained into the future.

Exercise equipment

The outdoor exercise equipment was installed in partnership between Council and the Victorian Government to encourage residents to get active in their local parks in Manningham. Ruffey Creek Linear Park
… Ruffey Creek Linear Park runs along Ruffey Creek Valley in Templestowe from Ruffey Lake Park (King Street) to Finns … at each end. King Street, Doncaster to Ruffey Street, Templestowe Doncaster VIC 3108 Australia … Ruffey Creek …

Ruffey Creek Linear Park runs along Ruffey Creek Valley in Templestowe from Ruffey Lake Park (King Street) to Finns Reserve, where the creek enters the Yarra River. The park is almost entirely a bush experience landscaped with native vegetation alongside a recently constructed shared path. Highlights of the Linear Park include the fantastic destinations at each end.

Places and spaces

  • Ruffey Trail - bicycle and pedestrian path
  • Wetland and bush areas
  • Wombat Bend Playground and Main Yarra Trail at Finns Reserve
  • The Boulevarde, Church Road North and Victoria Street playground at Ruffey Lake Park
  • Barbecues, picnic shelters, open parkland, bushland and public toilets at all destinations

Bring your dog

Off lead reserve, except within 15 metres of a playground, barbecue area or where a sporting event is in progress. Once the trail is completed (refer Ruffey Creek Linear Park Management Plan 2017), dogs will be required to be on-lead within five metres of the trail.

Vegetation

Within the Linear Park, Ruffey, Biosite 30 comprises 7.35 hectares remnant vegetation located in three sections; one at the Yarra River at Finns Reserve, another upstream of Foote Street at St. Kevins Primary School and the third in Ruffey Lake Park. The vegetation is considered high priority in Council’s Healthy Habitats Bushland Management Strategy 2012. The creek valley has always been considered important as a wildlife corridor and appropriate screen planting of indigenous vegetation, weed management and integration of these adjoining reserves should continue.

Ruffey Trail

The Ruffey Trail, a major feature of the Linear Park, offers a bushland experience for pedestrians and cyclists on an off-road three kilometre shared path. The trail crosses four major roads between Finns Reserve and Ruffey Lake Park. There are underpasses (with lighting) at King Street and Williamsons Road and road crossings at Foote Street and Parker Street. Cyclists and pedestrians currently also use Eumeralla Avenue as there is no footpath or trail in this section.

Trail Length

3.0 km (sealed)
