Notice is given that a Council Meeting of the Manningham City Council will be held at 6:30pm on Tuesday, 14 September 2021. This meeting is called pursuant to Rule 12.1 of the Governance Rules. The business to be transacted at this Council meeting is:

• 2020/21 Financial Report and Performance Statement: Approval in Principle
• Hearing of Submissions – Proposed Road Closure of Arundel Road (West), Park Orchards

This meeting will be held online. Residents and interested people are encouraged to view the livestream on Manningham’s Facebook page or website.

Come along and help celebrate National Wattle Day in 2024 by registering for a community planting session hosted by our Parks and Environment team. 

Meet at Stiggant Reserve where you will be guided by the team to plant local native plants to improve the habitat along the Birrarung (Yarra River) corridor. 

Prepared to be delighted! The 100 Acres Walk bursts to life with wildflowers during spring.

Join us for an enchanting walk along narrow bush tracks, beside ponds, across bridges, and in the presence of wildlife and enormous gum trees.

The 100 Acres Reserve encompasses 41 hectares and is classified as a conservation reserve of regional significance. The reserve also provides a range of recreational opportunities in a natural bush setting, including walking, jogging and nature appreciation.

• Distance: 2.5 km
• Time: 2.5 hours
• Difficulty: Easy to moderate. Good walking trail.
• Bring: A hat, sunscreen, hand sanitiser and a water bottle.
• Location: Meet at Domeney Reserve Car Park off Knees Road.

• plant positions for summer shade while letting the winter sun shine through for free heating in the cooler months
• practical solutions for renters.

Our presenter:
Kat Lavers is the gardener and designer behind The Plummery, a 1/14th acre urban permaculture system in Melbourne's north that produces almost all the vegetables, herbs, fruit and eggs consumed by the household! She’s realised that with good design, growing lots of food is possible even with limited time, space and resources.

This fun, hands-on session is designed to improve your confidence by the river.

Join Life Saving Victoria's expert instructors on the banks of the Birrarung (Yarra River) to:

• Learn how to spot hidden dangers in the water and understand how currents work.
• Practise real-life safety skills and basic rescue steps, like using life jackets.
• Discover how to care for our rivers and enjoy them responsibly.

Please note:

• The session does not involve entering the water.
• Registrations are essential. All ages are welcome, under 18s must be accompanied by an adult.
• Wear comfortable clothing, a hat, sunscreen and closed-toed shoes, and bring a drink bottle.

About Riverfest

This event is part of the 2025 Birrarung Riverfest. Celebrate our river at one of 60+ events hosted over three weeks from 6 to 28 September.

To help you remove garden waste to prepare for bushfire season, you can drop off either one car boot, station wagon, ute or a 6‘x4’ level trailer load of garden waste on certain dates throughout the year.

Who can use this service?

You need to live in a Bushfire Prone Area to use this service. We will ask you to show proof of residency (either a driver's licence or rates notice) at the check-in point on the day. If someone else drops off the garden waste for you, make sure you provide them with your proof. 

If you are not eligible for this service or have excess garden waste to dispose, you can:

• order an additional garden waste bin for spring
• book a bundled branches collection
• take it to a local transfer station.

You can drop off either one car boot, station wagon, ute or a 6’x4’ level trailer load of garden waste for free. There is a charge for any extra garden waste – see costs below.

How to book

Choose a date from the list below, select your preferred 30 minute timeslot and click ‘Register’ to finalise your booking. Each household is eligible to attend one time slot each month.

Join wildlife ecologist John Harris as we undertake a biodiversity survey of 100 Acres Reserve. This community biodiversity survey is part of the global City Nature Challenge (CNC).

How to participate

It is free, easy, and fun to get involved.

Bring your mobile phone or digital camera to take pictures of the wild plants, animals and fungi you see, or make sound recordings of frog or bird calls.

Any observations taken over the four days, need to be uploaded to iNaturalist and included in the City Nature Challenge 2023.

To prepare for the guided walks and talks:

• install the iNaturalist app on your mobile phone and create an iNaturalist account
• make sure your phone battery is fully charged on the day
• wear weather-appropriate clothing, bring a rain/wind-proof jacket, and wear safe, fully-enclosed walking shoes to go in long grass
• bring your own drink bottle and snacks
• become a member of the Melbourne City Nature Challenge project to discover nature in our neighbourhoods

About the City Nature Challenge

The City Nature Challenge runs from Friday 28 April to Monday 1 May 2023.

In this worldwide BioBlitz, cities compete to make the most observations of the most species by the most people.

Manningham is collaborating with over 25 local governments to form the Greater Melbourne project.

Last year Greater Melbourne came 33rd from 445 cities for the number of observations made. Hume City came fourth amongst the other local government areas.

Footy 4 Fun inclusion is for children aged 5 to 12 that identify as having a disability.

The program will involve fun and modified AFL and sport activities delivered in a safe and inclusive environment.

All abilities are welcome, no prior experience playing AFL is needed.

Facility is wheelchair accessible.

Plenty of parking available on site. 

Join Council's Biodiversity Planner Cathy Willis for a walk identifying most Manningham’s eucalypt species in the field.

• Rating: Moderate (mostly easy with one steep section)
• Distance: 1.5 km
• Time: 2 hrs
• Wear: Sturdy shoes and weather-appropriate clothing.
• Bring: A water bottle.
• Meeting point: Pound Bend picnic area in Warrandyte State Park (in the carpark near the tunnel at the southern end).

These workshops are led by experienced instructors to create a fun environment that involves games with a social focus.

During a Learn to Skate session, children and young people build confidence by learning about skate skill development, injury prevention, skate park etiquette and equipment maintenance.

Suitable for  beginners to intermediate skate boarders.

All genders and all abilities are welcome to participate.
