Everyone, regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity or background, should feel safe, accepted and included.

Join us in recognising International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexism and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT). 

IDAHOBIT raises awareness of the violence and discrimination still faced by LGBTQIA+ people across the globe. This year’s IDAHOBIT theme is The Power of Communities.

After raising the rainbow flag outside the Manningham Civic Centre, we’ll head inside to the Manningham Function Centre to enjoy morning tea  and hear from guest speaker Charlie, from LGBTQIA+ youth charity Minus18. Charlie will share some of the barriers and challenges that LGBTQIA+ young people experience, along with practical tips for supporting your LGBTQIA+ friends and family. 

This is a free event, however registrations are essential.  We look forward to seeing you there.

Jesse Glascott, is co-founder of the Sustainable Building Alliance, Director of G-Lux Builders and architect of the iconic Warrandyte Panel House. Jesse will discuss what goes into designing and building net zero sustainable homes.

Elle Paton is co-founder of the Australian Tiny House Association. Tiny homes are prefabricated, transportable dwellings that can provide off-grid, eco-friendly and low cost solutions. Elle will share her story of what its like to live in a tiny house.

This workshop will include an overview of plant needs and different growing methods, as well as a hands-on activity where participants will learn to sow their own seeds to grow at home.

Whether you have a backyard or a balcony garden, you’ll leave with simple, practical tips to start your edible gardening adventure.

Come along and learn from market gardener and passionate seed saver, Julie Bennett from Montalto Kitchen Gardener and Seeds are free. 

In this session, we'll cover the incredible world of seeds, while also discussing tips, tricks and techniques for how to successfully save your own seed – year after year. This will save you money while preserving heritage seeds and maintaining the genetic diversity and local adaptations of our food crops.

This seminar begins at 6.15pm. Please bring along any saved or excess seeds for a seed swap party afterwards! Please ensure your seeds are correctly labelled (envelopes will be provided).

Home Harvest Manningham is a monthly home gardening seminar series that will teach you how to grow your own delicious fresh food at home.

This month Maria Ciavarella from My Green Garden will show you how to preserve home grown tomatoes.

The session will cover the art and science of:

  • bottling (jars of peeled tomatoes)
  • pickling (green tomato pickle)
  • making a sauce (ketchup style)
  • dehydrating (dried tomatoes)
  • preserving using a process that requires no electricity,  smoke or steam.

Registration is recommended but not required.

Sensory quiet time is a designated period when the pool environment is modified to be more sensory-friendly. Designed to provide a calm and relaxing environment for our patrons. 

Sensory quiet time starts Sunday 18 August 2024 and will be running for eight weeks. Between the hours of 2.00pm and 3.00pm our indoor pool will be transformed into a sensory-friendly space.

All gardens begin with fabulous soil. 

In this workshop we will take a deep dive into the world of soil and how to care for it. There are many simple ways to improve the soil in your garden and enable a productive and beautiful garden for all to enjoy.

This workshop will introduce you to the science of soil and provide tips and tricks on how to improve soil for a wildlife garden and benefit the environmental.

Bring a sample of your own soil to test pH.

Presenter: Charlotte Harrison from Sustainable Gardening Australia.

Supper is at 6.45pm, the seminar begins at 7.00pm sharp.

Registration is essential.

This is the second seminar of a four-part series on Gardening for Biodiversity. The series of workshops is run by Sustainable Gardening Australia and provides tips and tricks to garden for wildlife and support biodiversity in your local area.

Seeing small birds visit our gardens is a wonderful experience and there are many ways we can create our gardens to encourage their visits. 

This workshop will share some of the challenges small birds face in the urban environment and what can be done to create a safe and inviting home for them.  A few of the local small bird champions will also be introduced and the session includes tips for providing food, shelter, water and breeding sites to create habitat for birds.

Get ready to swing, sip and celebrate at Manningham’s annual Seniors Morning Tea, held on the first Friday of Seniors Month!

This year, we’re bringing the glitz and glamour of the 1920s to life. Guests will enjoy a delightful morning tea, live entertainment and plenty of opportunities to dance, mingle and reminisce.

Feel free to dress to impress! Put on your finest flapper dresses, fedoras and pearls, and step into the golden era of jazz, Charleston and connection. Whether you're tapping your toes or simply soaking in the atmosphere, this event promises fun, laughter and wonderful company.

Location: Manningham Function Centre

Parking: Free parking is available in the Civic Centre car park. A free minibus will pick up guests around the car park and drop them off at the Manningham Function Centre entry doors.

The booking link will be available on this page from 9.00am on Monday 1 September. 

Each person may book up to 2 tickets.   

If your community group wishes to reserve a table of 10,  please contact us from Monday 1 September.   

We kindly ask that you wait until bookings open, as we’re unable to accept reservations before then.

We are holding a home insurance workshop with Eastern Community Legal Centre (ECLC), a multidisciplinary legal service that works to prevent problems and support community resilience.

The session will cover important topics including:

  • having an up-to-date insurance policy  
  • the right insurance amount for your home and contents
  • what to look out for in your existing insurance policy.

Participants are encouraged to bring insurance policy documents for personal reference during the session.
