We’re making it easier for you to go all-electric with a range of free events, resources and rebates.

Manningham residents can access trusted installers, quality products and government discounts to support their transition to solar power and electric appliances through our partnership with Solar Savers.

Why go all-electric?

By going electric, you can create a healthier home and support a cleaner future.

The process involves upgrading appliances to energy-efficient electric ones. This can include ovens, stovetops, heaters and hot water systems.

You can also switch to renewable energy by installing solar panels or choosing GreenPower.

How can I learn more?

Whether you’re new to all-electric homes or have already started the switch, we have an event for you.

What is Solar Savers?

Solar Savers is a local government initiative that has been helping households go electric and switch to solar energy since 2018. You can join the 10,000 plus Manningham households with solar who have begun their journey to an all-electric home.

Solar Savers takes the hard work out of going all-electric, helping you install quality and affordable rooftop solar, batteries, hot water heat pumps and reverse cycle air conditioners.

UNITE! Invest to prevent violence against women and girls

16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence runs from 25 November (International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women) to 10 December (Human Rights Day).

This global campaign brings together people and communities worldwide to unite against violence towards women, girls and non-binary people.

This year, we introduced 16 Days of Activism small grants to support local initiatives that raise awareness, promote action and help drive meaningful change.

We are funding six community organisations to deliver activities to youth, carers and multicultural community groups, including:

  • Seniors Happy Life Club  Coffee Chats at Doncaster Bunnings, an event in English and Mandarin where we will join local police in discussing the issue in a safe space and sharing support services.
  • An awareness-raising window display at Warrandyte Neighbourhood Community House sharing key messages, statistics, and pathways to support those experiencing gender-based violence.

For full details, see the events below.

In Australia, family violence is against the law. If you or someone you know is experiencing family violence, please ask for help. In an emergency always call 000.

Call 1800RESPECT or visit respectvictoria.vic.gov.au. You can also find local wellbeing support services.

Celebrating our 2024 Manningham Civic Awards winners

Article Content

We proudly honoured the exceptional individuals and organisations making a meaningful difference in the community at the 2024 Civic Awards.

Held last week, family and friends of the nominees gathered at the Manningham Function Centre for the awards ceremony.  The nominees were celebrated for their outstanding contributions, and winners were announced for their exceptional community service.

Brian Tyedin was awarded Manningham Citizen of the Year for his work with Rotary over the past 25 years.

“Being nominated is a reward in itself and to be recognised for what we are doing in the community,” Brian said.

“There are so many opportunities to volunteer in this community and so many people doing great things.

“I hope that by receiving this award, I can work with other organisations to achieve an even better outcome for Manningham and help others in the community,” Brian said.

This year there were two recipients of the Doreen Stoves Volunteer of the Year Award, Luke Bastian and Kate Gniel.

Luke was recognised for his outstanding commitment to the local Scouting community over the past two decades. Park Orchards-based mum of three, Kate, was recognised for her remarkable work in the community and with the Sharks Junior Football Club.

“Volunteering fills my heart and makes me feel content. My youngest son was diagnosed with leukemia a few years ago, and during that time, we were overwhelmed by the kindness of so many people,” Kate said.

“That’s when we discovered the true power of community and felt deeply connected. It inspired us to give back and help others in the same way we were helped.”

Brian Tyedin - 2024 Citizen of the Year

Brian was awarded Citizen of the Year for his tireless support and service to the local community. He is a champion of the Rotary movement and has served Rotary and the Manningham community with distinction.

In 2022 Kate became the first ever female president of the Sharks Junior Football Club and has focused efforts on making the mental health of players and families first and foremost.

Anthony Milicia - 2024 Sports Volunteer of the Year

Anthony dedicates himself to volunteering with Manningham Juventus Football Club as if it were a second job, setting a positive example and motivating others. His actions serve as a source of inspiration and consistently makes himself available to others.

Each year we check in with our residents to see how we're doing. We want to understand your views on what living in Manningham is like. The way we do this is through an independently conducted community satisfaction survey.

For these surveys, we reach out by phone to 400 of our residents. The results of the phone conversations are then analysed, reported back to us, and discussed internally.

This helps us to learn more about our performance across several areas. It also helps us to understand where changes and improvements are necessary.

You can find out how we are doing by reading the report below.

Sentinel sculpture to be relocated
… to a new, but nearby home. On this page North East Link All News … Sentinel sculpture to be relocated …
Article Content

Manningham’s iconic ‘Sentinel’ sculpture by Inge King is moving to a new, but nearby home.

The sculpture was carefully transported into temporary storage as one-piece to allow North East Link Project (NELP) to progress works on the Eastern Freeway upgrades.

Sentinel will return to take pride of place at a suitable gateway location when works at the Doncaster interchange are completed in 2026. It will remain a prominent piece for Manningham to be enjoyed by local community and visitors alike.

Learn more about the relocation of Sentinel.

For NELP construction information and updates, call 1800 105 105 or visit the Big Build website.

Sentinel

Located at the Doncaster Road exit of the Eastern Freeway, Sentinel was conceived as an icon of the City of Manningham – casting a watchful eye over the area. Its curved shapes symbolise the two creeks of the municipality; the Mullum Mullum and the Koonung Creeks. They enclose the blue oval form representing the City of Manningham.

Standing at 13 metres high and weighing 12 tonnes, Sentinel was created by internationally renowned artist and long-term Manningham resident Inge King.

Learn more about Sentinel.

About the artist

“Sculpture is the exploration of form and space, it is a drawing from a thousand different angles” - Inge King (National Gallery of Australia).

A leading Australian sculptor, Inge King AM (1915 – 2016) was pivotal in developing and diversifying sculpture in Australia and worked actively until she was 98 years old.

Born in Berlin, Inge moved to Australia in 1950, creating many iconic public works in Melbourne, Brisbane and Canberra. She was made a Member of the Order of Australia in 1984.

Athletes can compete to be crowned the winner of not only Warrandyte, but also the Victorian Melbourne Metro. Points from each round accumulate throughout the year to decide the best of 2023.

Entry is free and people of all ages and abilities can have a go.

In August, we welcomed a visit from VicHealth as part of our Local Government Partnership, which aims to enhance the health and wellbeing of children and young people aged zero to 25 years.

As part of the visit, VicHealth CEO Dr Sandro Demaio joined our CEO, Andrew Day at Doncaster Secondary where students showcased their impressive work on their ‘Stride or Glide’ campaign promoting active travel among their peers.

The visit highlighted the significant strides that we’ve made in enhancing health and wellbeing in our community thanks to our Local Government partnership with VicHealth.

The focus of the partnership is on enhancing the health and wellbeing of children and young people by focusing on getting more people active, reducing alcohol-related harm, creating connected and supportive communities, and exploring climate and health.

Celebrating International Women's Day
… 6 March, with tickets now available.  On this page All News … Celebrating International Women's Day …
Article Content

Our highly anticipated International Women’s Day Breakfast event returns on Thursday 6 March, with tickets now available.

This year’s keynote speaker, Dr Emma Fulu, is a world-leading expert on gender equality and ending violence against women and girls. She has worked for the United Nations and other global programs.

Manningham Mayor, Councillor Deirdre Diamante said International Women’s Day was an opportunity to celebrate, connect and reflect.

“I’m so pleased to welcome Dr Emma Fulu to Manningham to speak on such an important issue that demands attention and action both globally and locally,” Cr Diamante said.

“Championing gender equality and respect in every aspect of our lives is at the heart of driving change.

“We all have a role to play in turning promises into progress. I encourage men and women to join us for what will be an insightful and inspiring morning,” the Mayor added.

International Women’s Day (IWD) is a global celebration of women’s achievements and raises awareness for women’s equality.

Dr Fulu will speak to this year’s UN Women Australia IWD theme, ‘March Forward: It’s time to turn promises into progress’.

The theme is in reference to the 30th anniversary of the United Nations Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (1995) – considered to be the most progressive blueprint for advancing women’s rights.

While women have broken many barriers since then, there’s still much to be done for millions of women around the world and it’s time to turn promises into progress.

Dr Fulu will be joined by a panel of guest speakers who will bring their lived experience and individual lens to this important discussion.

The event will be held on Thursday 6 March, 7.30am to 9.30am at the Manningham Function Centre. Tickets are $25 and include a plated breakfast.

For more information and to book your ticket, visit our events page.
