… Media Release: New youth hub to open at MC Square Manningham Council will open a new youth hub at MC Square in Doncaster this August to support young people …

Manningham Council will open a new youth hub at MC Square in Doncaster this August to support young people across Manningham.

MY Hub will open its doors on Thursday 8 August 2024 as a dedicated space for young people aged 10 to 25 in Manningham to find support, resources, and referrals from Manningham’s Youth Services (EACH) team.

Manningham Mayor, Councillor Carli Lange said Council is committed to supporting all young people in our community.

“Our young people are the future of Manningham. We want to make sure everyone has the resources and support they need to thrive locally,” Cr Lange said.

“MY Hub will be a welcoming and empowering space where young people can find the help they need to grow, connect, and thrive in our community.”

The services available at MY Hub will include:

  • Free mentoring support, guidance, and advice for young people aged 10 to 25

  • Leadership and community engagement opportunities

  • Youth programs for schools and local community groups

  • Support for community service providers and businesses

“In my discussions with Manningham Deputy Mayor and chair of the Manningham Youth Advisory Committee Councillor Laura Mayne, she said it will be a great new space for Manningham and encourages everyone to check out the new youth hub” Cr Lange said.

“Our goal is to create a welcoming space where young people can access the support they need, engage with their community, and build a bright future,” Cr Lange said

The youth hub is a key action in Council's 2021-2025 Council Plan, which prioritises better support and services for young people.

“Creating a youth hub is a major initiative that reflects our community's desire for better youth support services. We are committed to ensuring everyone can access these resources easily and be part of a healthy and safe community,” Cr Lange said.

Located on level one of MC Square in Doncaster, MY Hub will join a range of other community services that make MC Square a central hub for the Manningham community, including Whitehorse Manningham Libraries, Manningham Art Gallery, Doncare, Doncaster Maternal and Child Health Service, Doncaster Kindergarten, and Early Years at MC Square.

For young people, parents, or carers looking for support, visit MY Hub at MC Square in Doncaster or reach out via the website below.

Suburban Rail Loop (SRL)

Find out what we're doing to advocate for the Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) project to include a station at Doncaster ...

A rail line to Doncaster

The Victorian Government's proposed underground rail link will connect suburbs from Cheltenham to Werribee.

The Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) includes a Doncaster Station. However construction may be over ten years away.

map showing the proposed stations and route of the Suburban Rail Loop

We are advocating for the Doncaster Station footprint to be set aside as part of Stage 1, to allow for planning of the Doncaster Hill precinct. For an express bus service that mirrors the Suburban Rail Loop Alignment. Providing a public transport connection to key education, healthcare and employment precincts.

Congestion on the Eastern Freeway

Why do we need a rail line to Doncaster?

Over 125,000 people in our community will benefit from a Doncaster Station. Currently our only public transport option is an over-crowded bus network that is often delayed by traffic congestion.

With Doncaster Hill’s population and traffic continuing to grow, we are urging the Victorian Government to include a Doncaster Station in stage two of the SRL and secure a location for the train station now.

Manningham is the only municipality without a tram or train line.

Car ownership per household is considerably high and daily public transport use for employment purposes is below the metropolitan average.

Our bus system is buckling under pressure to provide enough services and meet capacity for our growing city.

A chalk sketch of a conceptualisation of Doncaster Hill station at MC Square

Doncaster Station not part of stage one construction

We are strongly advocating to the Victorian Government to include Doncaster Station in Stage two of the SRL.

We are working with stakeholders and the SRL Authority to secure a site location for the future train station.

What’s next?

We will continue to work with the Suburban Rail Loop Authority and the Department of Transport to advocate for improved public transport services to Manningham.

We want

  • fewer roads
  • more public transport options for our community
  • a railway station to Doncaster

Curio: Window Space
… accessible at the south-eastern corner of Manningham City Square (MC Square), 687 Doncaster Road, Doncaster VIC 3108. Manningham …
This exhibition is no longer showing in the Manningham Art Gallery.

On in Manningham Art Gallery's Curio display window, this small exhibition of works by Anni Hagberg and Rhys Cousins extends the artists' recent exhibitions in the gallery, exploring and playing with materials in innovative and exciting ways.

The display pairs silk prints of finely detailed photographs of non-descript textures by Cousins with a collection of amorphous ceramic and mixed media objects created through experimental firings by Hagberg.

Together, the items speak to the artists' shared interest in everyday, discarded or otherwise forgotten materials and surfaces of modern urban environments and how they interact in myriad ways.

Curio is accessible at the south-eastern corner of Manningham City Square (MC Square), 687 Doncaster Road, Doncaster VIC 3108.

As part of Craft Contemporary 2023 we are presenting:

Soil Clay, by Vivian Qiu

The Soil Clay Project is an ongoing exploration of the artist’s jewellery designs through her experience living and studying in China, Australia and Sweden.

Vivian uses her observational insights and collection of natural materials and common objects to mould into wearable artworks. She incorporates soil, fallen leaves and flowers, grass and rice to act as a binding agent for her work.

She establishes a connection between the wearer to place, time, and culture through materials and the ancient symbolism of oracle bone script.

Artworks from Vivian’s residency in Sweden will be on display.

On display at MC Square Community Centre (ground floor) from Monday 2 October to Sunday 5 November 2023.
