The Red Gum Café located in the Manningham Uniting Church and Community Centre, has now been accredited by Dementia Australia as being Dementia Friendly. 

The Red Gum Café has been established as an accessible and safe environment for people living with dementia, and their carers and families, with staff having successfully undertaken training to help people living with dementia to enjoy social and community connections. 

The café is open Tuesday to Friday, 9.00am to 3.30pm, and on Saturdays from 9.00am to 2.00pm.

A support group for carers assisting people living with dementia currently meets in the café on the first Friday of every month, at 1.30pm.

Please note: The Friday group is established and no new participants will be added. New additional meeting days and times will be arranged for those wanting to attend and connect.

The four sessions run on Wednesday from 10:30am - 12:00pm, commencing on Wednesday 30 April. Cost is $65 for 4 sessions; concessions are available.

Come along and learn from market gardener and passionate seed saver, Julie Bennett from Montalto Kitchen Gardener and Seeds are free. 

In this session, we'll cover the incredible world of seeds, while also discussing tips, tricks and techniques for how to successfully save your own seed – year after year. This will save you money while preserving heritage seeds and maintaining the genetic diversity and local adaptations of our food crops.

This seminar begins at 6.15pm. Please bring along any saved or excess seeds for a seed swap party afterwards! Please ensure your seeds are correctly labelled (envelopes will be provided).

Disability Sports Australia and Manningham Council invite adults living with disability to our free Abilities Unleashed event.  

Proudly supported by our official healthcare partners, Bupa Australia, MatchWorks, and the Australian Sports Commission, these days mark the initial steps in the active journey of an adult living with disability.

This event aims to motivate and enable participants to discover local active opportunities within a fun, safe, and inclusive environment.

Participants will have the opportunity to experience a variety of sport and active recreation activities on the day.

In this interactive session, Mandarin speakers will be introduced to multiple ways of home organic recycling including:

• hot composting
• worm farming
• bokashi composting.

Live demonstrations and hands-on training will break your stereotypes of composting being smelly, unhygienic and troublesome.

No matter where you live, how much space and time you have, there’s always something you can do right from your kitchen and backyard to recycle your organic waste and turn it into garden gold. In doing so, you will be helping our environment to become better.

Please note: this workshop will be presented in Mandarin.
