We invite you to join us in acknowledging the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexism and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) as we gather together to recognise the strengths, contributions and resilience of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Attendees are welcomed to join us in raising the Pride Flag on the concourse out the front of the Civic Centre. We will then move into the function rooms to listen to and learn from our guest speaker, Sally Goldner, share her lived experiences and speak to this year's IDAHOBIT theme.

2024 IDAHOBIT theme "No one left behind: Equality, freedom and justice for all".

Please note: registrations are required for this event.

IDAHOBIT is internationally recognised as May 17.

Keynote speaker

Sally Goldner AM’s massive involvement in Victoria’s queer communities spans nearly 30 years. Her diverse contributions include being a founding member of Transgender Victoria, presenting 3 CR’s “Out of the Pan,” Transfamily Treasurer, Just.Equal Australia Treasurer and Bisexual Alliance Victoria Treasurer. She is the focus of an autobio-doco “Sally’s Story”, a life member of four queer-focussed organisations and has made broad-ranging contributions to many groups.

Sally was inducted into the Victorian Women’s Honour Roll in 2016 (the first trans and first known bi woman to receive the honour), awarded LGBTI Victorian of the Year in 2015 and noted in The Age’s Top 100 most creative and influential people in Melbourne in 2011. We invite residents to provide feedback on upcoming projects in Warrandyte and Wonga Park in November.

Our CEO, Andrew Day, encouraged residents to share their thoughts and ideas at upcoming consultation sessions – to help ensure future projects reflect community values and priorities.

“We want to hear directly from the people who know the area best – its residents,” said CEO, Andrew Day.

"If you like the project – tell us. If you have ideas to improve the project – tell us. Your feedback, no matter the opinion, is essential to helping us make informed decisions for the community," he said.

The sessions will consult on projects across various stages. Some will be in the initial planning phase, where community sentiment and input are vital. Others will be further advanced, where project designs will be shared, and officers will be available to answer questions.

Article Content

You’re invited to share your ideas and priorities for our community’s future by making an ‘Individual submission’ to the Manningham Community Panel.

Make an individual submission.

Your input will be considered by the Panel as they deliberate and prepare recommendations for Council’s major strategic plans.

What will the panel deliberate on?

Council endorsed the following remit for the Manningham Community Panel at its 25 June 2024 meeting.

Council has a budget of $147m, but we can’t do everything and need to make hard choices. We need to know what services you value most to help us create a new Council Plan, Asset Plan and Financial Plan to guide Council activity for the next four years to align with the Community Vision. It will inform what the community pays and gets in return.

What range and level of services are you prepared to pay for?

Submit your ideas about what the panel should consider as they work together to answer this question.

This consultation closes Thursday 19 September at 11.59pm.

Community will also be welcome to observe the deliberative process at several open Panel sessions – more information will be available on the Your Say Manningham page shortly.

Pomegranate Cultural Group are thrilled to present a compelling performance highlighting the experiences of Iranian girls and women. With a unique blend of poetic and documentary perspectives, this play seeks to shed light on the injustices faced by women in Iran.

Showcasing the pivotal events that have transpired within the framework of the Iran Women's Movement over the past year. This movement has transcended geographical boundaries, gained global recognition and empathy well beyond the confines of their homeland.

At the core of the monologue lies the impactful slogan "Woman, Life, Freedom," symbolizing the triumph over oppression. This slogan serves as a guiding light, directing the production and enabling them to delve into Iranian women's strength, resilience, and courage as they navigate challenging circumstances.

When the Wind Blows
… happens when the unimaginable becomes reality? A quiet life is turned upside down when an elderly British couple …

Hope. Love. Survival. What happens when the unimaginable becomes reality?

A quiet life is turned upside down when an elderly British couple prepares for an impending nuclear strike. Armed with only government survival pamphlets and unwavering optimism, they face the horrors of war with a heartbreaking mix of love, humor and denial.

This critically acclaimed adaptation of Raymond Briggs' classic graphic novel is a deeply moving, darkly humorous, and eerily relevant story about resilience in the face of catastrophe.

Why you should see it:

  • a gripping and emotional theatre experience that will stay with you long after the final bow
  • a blend of satire and tragedy, offering moments of both laughter and heartbreak
  • stunning, intimate performances by Adrian Rice and Simone Kiefer, directed by David Tynan

Don’t miss this unforgettable production at Warrandyte Theatre Company.

Bring a friend, spread the word, and experience one of the most thought-provoking plays of the season.
