Winter Favourites 2025 - Manningham Concert Band

Who said you shouldn’t enjoy Christmas music all year round? No one we know!...

Who said you shouldn’t enjoy Christmas music all year round? No one we know!

It’s not all Christmas though, we've also included a variety of many other enjoyable pieces. After the world premiere of Iron Horse at our 50th Gala last year, we're including another young Australian’s original composition.

We're also very proud to have a fantastic guest soloist on Cor Anglais performing two pieces with us. This is a very difficult instrument to play and having heard some of her recordings, we know you’ll be impressed.

Please spread the word and encourage family and friends to come and enjoy a great afternoon with the Manningham Concert Band.

Tickets available via TryBooking and also at the door.

When do you need a permit for your property
… and health of people who use buildings and places of public entertainment improve the amenity of buildings. What … permits for connecting to infrastructure, protection of public assets and more. Often you will find out which permits …

Before embarking on building, renovating, tree removal/lopping or any other works, it is important to ascertain whether you require a permit.

Why do you need to get planning and building approval?

Planning permits and building permits serve different purposes.

A planning permit is required to ensure that your project complies with the relevant zoning and overlay controls applicable to your property and to ensure that your project considers its impact on the surrounding area with respect to character, built form and materials, surrounding neighbours, traffic, environmental impacts and community need.

A building permit focuses on the technical aspects of construction and safety ensuring that your project complies with the relevant building codes and regulations.

Links to the relevant controls are:

The Planning and Environment Act 1987

The purpose of this Act is to establish a framework for planning the use, development and protection of land in Victoria.  The Act sets out procedures for preparing and amending the Victoria Planning Provisions and planning schemes. It also sets out the process for obtaining permits under schemes, settling disputes, enforcing compliance with planning schemes and permits, and other administrative procedures.

Manningham Planning Scheme

The Manningham Planning Scheme sets out objectives, policies and controls for the use, development and protection of land for our entire municipality. The planning scheme guides how land can be used or developed though zoning controls (e.g. commercial or residential) and what other activities can be undertaken on the land (e.g. constructing a new apartment building or units, childcare or medical centre, restaurant/cafe serving liquor, display of business signage, or works to a heritage building).

National Construction Code (NCC) 2019

The NCC provides the minimum necessary requirements for health and safety, amenity and accessibility, and sustainability in the design, construction, performance and liveability of new buildings (and new building work in existing buildings) throughout Australia.

Building Regulations 2018

The Building Regulations 2018 (the Regulations) came into effect on 2 June 2018. The Regulations are a subordinate legislation of the Building Act and contain, among other things, requirements relating to:

  • building permits
  • building inspections
  • occupancy permits
  • enforcement
  • maintenance of buildings.

The Regulations adopt the Building Code of Australia (BCA), which is part of the National Construction Code.

Building Act 1993

The Building Act 1993 (the Act) sets out the framework for the regulation of building construction, building standards and the maintenance of specific building safety features.

The objectives of the Act are to:

  • protect the safety and health of people who use buildings and places of public entertainment
  • improve the amenity of buildings.

What types of projects need a permit?

Here are some common projects that need approval - contact us even if your project is not listed here:

  • multi-dwelling developments and apartments
  • construction of a new single dwelling or dwelling extension
  • buildings and works, including some internal changes to a building
  • demolition/partial demolition and new works to buildings in a Heritage Overlay
  • garages, carports, sheds, pergolas, decks, verandahs
  • removing trees and vegetation
  • new land uses such as a childcare centre, medical centre etc...
  • earthworks
  • Septic tanks
  • tennis courts
  • swimming pools and spas
  • fencing
  • business identification signage on a building or property
  • subdivision of land
  • covenant removal/variations
  • liquor license for a restaurant/cafe
  • consent for any works or tree removal and the like if your land has a Section 173 agreement.
  • tables and chairs and/or signage on the footpath
  • asset protection

You have a dream project - where to start

New to building or renovation?

For advice on all things renovation and construction, visit the Victorian Building Authority (VBA).

Every dream project is different with its own needs and challenges. Here are the steps to give you a rough guide on the process, timeframes and costs when starting any project.

  1. Contact us to discuss your project with us to confirm if you need a planning permit

    Contact us

    You can also view:

    • Apply for a planning property enquiry
    • Apply for pre-application advice
    • Learn about the planning permit process

If you don't need a planning permit you can proceed straight to building permit

  2. If we confirm that you need a planning permit, start the application
    • Apply for a planning permit
    • View planning permit fees

After you apply you can also

    • Track the progress of your planning permit applications
  3. Get a building permit before you start construction
    • Learn about the building permit process

We do not issue building permits so you will need to contact a building surveyor to organise a building permit.

You will need the permit to ensure what you're hoping to construct or change is done right and to building code standards.

  4. Apply for any other permits you need before you start works

You may need permits for connecting to infrastructure, protection of public assets and more. Often you will find out which permits you need throughout the process, so it is always best to discuss your plans with us or industry professionals.

    Some common permits include:

    • Works, drainage and stormwater permit
    • Asset protection permit

Summer Celebration is coming to Templestowe Village every Saturday in February.

Bring your friends, family and party vibes.

We are showcasing our incredible local Manningham artists with our local businesses throughout Summer.

Talented local artists Jazz Notes will be outside Carlucci's creating soulful summer memories. Playing a mix of gentle and upbeat jazz with classical, pop and Latin twists, the Duo combines the delicate sounds of Ann Craig (flute) and Kevin Blazé (guitar) to suit wide-ranging tastes.

Ann and Kevin are both classically trained but, after independently undertaking short courses with Australian jazz legend, Bob Sedergreen, both found the liberation offered by jazz. Then, a chance meeting led to the collaboration that is now Jazz Notes.

COVID-19 UPDATE: In light of the Victorian Government's announcement, Doncare has made the decision to postpone the Empowered Women, Empowering Women charity luncheon. The circuit breaker may have temporarily tripped our plans to host the event on the 4 June, but rest assured we are working busily behind the scenes with Jane Caro and Bramleigh Estate to reschedule the event.

We are committed to creating the best possible experience for all of our guests and whilst we would love you to hang in there with us while we navigate the next few weeks and determine a new date, we do want to provide you with the flexibility to obtain a refund, should you wish to do so.  In order to initiate a refund request, please email martine.corbett@doncare.org.au.

Doncare would like to take this opportunity to thank our fabulous sponsors, Bendigo Bank, Bramleigh Estate, 89.9 The Light, Kinexus, Quintons IGA and Woodards.  Your support of this fundraising initiative is sincerely appreciated.

Join Jane Caro at the Empowered Women, Empowering Women charity luncheon. Enjoy a three course meal and wine at the stunning Bramleigh Estate and hear from one of Australia's most influential social commentators.

Across the global stage, women's empowerment continues to be a common theme uniting communities and Jane Caro AM is a woman known for saying what's on her mind.

The author, novelist, broadcaster, columnist and social commentator is a weekly regular on Channel Seven's 'Weekend Sunrise' and 'Mornings' on Channel Nine. Jane appears frequently on the ABC's 'Q&A' and 'The Drum', Network Ten's 'The Project' and Channel Nine's 'Sunrise'. She is also a regular panelist on the ABC's top-rating show The Gruen Transfer and a regular columnist for MamaMia, The Conversation, MT magazine, the SMH and The Drum.

#ewew2021 is set to emulate the success of the inaugural charity luncheon which boasted a stellar line-up including comedian and radio personality Jo Stanley, 2015 Australian of the Year, Dr Rosie Batty and award-winning designer and TV personality Shaynna Blaze. In fact, we've invited Jo Stanley back this year to host the event because we know how much you loved her! Rosie has even promised to join us again for what promises to be another fabulous afternoon. Get ready to get empowered!
