Feedback sought on proposed new location for Gum Nut Gully Preschool
… Feedback sought on proposed new location for Gum Nut Gully Preschool We’re seeking community feedback … East and are seeking community feedback. On this page For parents, guardians and families Have Your Say … Feedback sought on …
Article Content

We’re seeking community feedback on a proposal to rebuild Gum Nut Gully Preschool at a new location in Doncaster East.

The proposal would see the preschool move from 58-60 Larnoo Drive, Doncaster East, to Corsican Reserve, 400m away at 12 Corsican Avenue.

Gum Nut Gully Preschool is managed by an independent, not-for-profit committee of parents and carers and was built in 1987.

The building is now reaching its end of life, and to ensure the continued delivery of high-quality early childhood education in the area, we are planning for the future of this important service.

We’re partnering with the Victorian Government through its Building Blocks program to replace the building with a new two-room modular facility, providing places for 66 children.

This would enable the kinder to meet demand for free 3 and 4-year-old kinder programs in the area.

However, site investigations have found it is unviable to build the modular preschool at its current location in Larnoo Drive due to a range of site complexities including the topography, environmental considerations and planning controls.

Nearby Corsican Reserve has been identified as the best alternative for the preschool rebuild. It’s only a short walk to Mullum Mullum Linear Reserve, allowing the preschool to continue with is popular bush kinder program.

If the project proceeds, and preschool relocates, the existing preschool site in Larnoo Drive will be retained for community use.

We want to hear your thoughts on the proposal. Share your feedback by completing our survey at Your Say Manningham until 11.59pm, Tuesday 2 September 2025.

Find childcare services
… View a list of local childcare centres and get tips on what to look for Kids and Family … Find childcare services …

We recommend families visit a range of childcare services to choose the most suitable one for your child’s needs.

Here are some questions to ask yourself when choosing a childcare service:

  • How many hours of care do you need? (e.g. whole day, mornings, afternoons, few hours a week, occasionally etc.)
  • Do you want your child cared for in a home environment or in a centre?
  • What kind of qualifications and experiences do staff members have?
  • Does the centre offer a Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (DEECD) funded pre-school program?
  • What learning and play opportunities do you want your child to have?
  • What kind of routine will your child have?
  • Do you want the centre to provide lunch? Can you look at a sample meal plan?
  • Does the centre provide nappies?
  • What is the carer-to-child ratio?

Contact us for more information on childcare in Manningham.

Storytime sessions support literacy development, social skills and group learning, all while exploring health and wellbeing themes.

Who: For children aged one to five years.

When: Every second Tuesday of the month during school terms at Bulleen Library. Every fourth Tuesday of the month at a local community venue.

Cost: Sessions are free to attend, and no registrations or library membership are required.

The Italian Storytime session is a part of the Government Multicultural Storytime grant which will help our local libraries deliver Storytime programs for babies and young children in Arabic and Italian in Manningham.

In this stunning new exhibition by artist Katrin Koenning, she intimately explores connection and belonging through a deeply personal and immersive constellation of images drawn from the artist’s archive across time and space.

Artist Biography
b. 1978. Dortmund, Germany. Lives and works in Naarm/Melbourne, Australia.

Pursuing intimacy and interconnection, Koenning's work centers practice as relational encounter, exploring themes such as community, kinship, grief and love. In extended image-dialogues, Katrin uses fragments and slippages to suggest narrative spaces and communities that are allied, fluid and multiplicit. Many of her series render non-human human entanglement.

Her work is regularly exhibited in Australia and internationally including in presentations at the National Gallery of Victoria and the National Portrait Gallery, Canberra; Centre for Contemporary Photography, Melbourne; Australian Centre for Photography, Sydney; the Museum of Australian Photography, Melbourne; Ishara Art Foundation, Dubai; Chobi Mela, Bangladesh; and Paris Photo. Her work is held in numerous institutional and private collections and has been published in The New Yorker, Vogue.com, Zeit Magazine, The Guardian, Esquire Italy, Der Spiegel, Yucca Magazine, California Sunday and many other places.
