Spring and summer are the perfect times to think about the netting you use to protect your fruit trees or garden beds.

Under 2021 Victorian regulations, it's illegal in Victoria to use or sell household fruit tree netting with a mesh size bigger than 5mm x 5mm. Larger mesh netting is more likely to entangle, distress, seriously injure or kill wildlife. To check if your netting is legal, try poking a finger through the mesh, if it can pass through, then it's too big.

We are inviting Manningham residents to surrender netting in exchange for one new, legal net.

  • Available to Manningham residents only (you will need to show an ID or a recent rates notice).
  • Only one net is available per household, in exchange for illegal netting.
  • You are welcome to bring in any illegal netting, even if you do not want a new net.
  • Net numbers are limited, book in early to reserve your spot to swap a net.
  • The net swap is only available at specific locations and dates. Please click 'Register now' if you wish to book a drop-in between 9:00am to 5:00pm at the Manningham Civic Centre.
  • Registrations are essential.

Surrendered illegal netting will be recycled via UPPAREL.

This event is part of a Victorian Net Swap pilot in collaboration with other local councils and the Conservation Regulator.

Pick up your lost animal

We will always attempt to get your registered and microchipped pet home to you.

What to bring when collecting your pet?

You will need to bring the following:

  • photo ID such as a drivers licence
  • a dog lead if you're collecting a dog.

How much does it cost?

If your pet:

  • is impounded during business hours (between 7.00am and 7.00pm), the release fee is $120.00
  • is impounded outside business hours (between 7.00pm and 7.00am), the release fee is $170.00
  • is not collected on the day it was impounded, an additional daily fee of $20.00 is charged for each subsequent day, to care for the animal.

Additional fees apply if your pet is not already microchipped or registered with us.

Microchip and register your pet to avoid future fees.
