UPDATED: 28 March 2025 partnership details and timeline
Improving our local sporting facilities is one of the ways we’re building a better Manningham.
What is happening?
In partnership with the Australian Government through the Play Our Way Funding Program, we're upgrading the netball courts and flood lighting at Wonga Park Reserve, Wonga Park.
The project will involve:
Stage 1
- reconstructing the netball courts with compliant courts of play, lighting, fencing, and additional space for basketball
- stabilising the embankments around the courts and addressing overgrown vegetation
- removal of the timber bridge beside the existing netball courts
- new player shelters
Stage 2
- a new small sized facility to service the netball courts, including toilets, a multi-purpose change space, storage, drinking station, and scorer's shelter.
This project will be delivered as part of our 2025/26 Capital Works Program.
Where are the works?
Works will take place at the Wonga Park Netball Courts at Wonga Park Reserve, Wonga Park.
When will the works happen?
Stage 1 construction is scheduled to begin in June 2025 with an expected duration of five months. This schedule is subject to weather conditions.
Stage 2 will follow the completion of Stage 1 works.
Why are the works needed?
The need to upgrade this facility was identified through a Netball Victoria Facility Audit and is planned as part of our Wonga Park Reserve Masterplan.
The existing facilities, including lighting, must be upgraded to comply with the latest Netball Victoria and industry guidelines.
The project will also provide new player shelters and a multipurpose facility, including a toilet and scorers shelter to support local clubs and communities who use the facility.
How will the works affect me?
The works will take place on weekdays during the hours of 7.00am and 5.00pm.
You may notice:
- construction noise
- minor traffic delays, including a temporary single lane closure
- disruptions to car parking
- footpath detours around the works
- temporary disruptions to the reserve access.
Please follow the directions of staff and signs to move safely around the area.

We're installing new public toilets at Cat Jump Park, Donvale.
This project is part of the Public Toilet Plan 2021 and Cat Jump Park Masterplan.
Where is it?
These public toilets will be located on the southern side of Cat Jump Park, near the Bellevue Avenue and Leslie Street roundabout in Donvale.
This location is easy to access for use, maintenance, and service connections.
When will it happen?
We plan to begin installing the toilet facility in early to mid-2025, and expect it to take around three to four months to complete.
Why is it needed?
Accessible public toilets allow people to spend more time in public spaces, socialising, exercising, and engaging with the community. Without them, residents and visitors are limited in where they can go and how long they can stay.
A safe, well-maintained, and environmentally friendly toilet will significantly improve the experience for Cat Jump Park visitors.
What will the toilets look like?
The new modular toilets will include:
- An accessible cubicle
- An ambulant cubicle
- Baby and child change facilities
- A rainwater tank to utilise a natural water supply
- External and internal powered lighting
- Skylights for natural lighting
- Concrete paths to connect the toilets with surrounding facilities
How will the works affect me?
To minimise any potential noise or disruption to the community, our modular toilets are made offsite and will be delivered to the site.
During the installation, you may notice some construction noise and increased traffic in the area.

Kerry Anne Reserve South
Kerry Anne Reserve South is 100 metres from Kerry Anne Reserve North. The value of this small reserve lies in the beautiful and circular mature indigenous trees, making it a perfect place to relax, soak in nature and contemplate.

- Landscaping including a garden bed with logs, timber steppers and rock features
- Additional canopy trees and retained habitat trees
- Open grassed area retained for informal play opportunities such as playing with a ball
- Granitic gravel entry path and signage.

Explore the quieter parts of Warrandyte with shorter rides for less experienced cyclists and longer rides for cyclists wanting a cardio-vascular workout.
There are short and long options for this ride. Both trails take the rider through some of Warrandyte's quieter backroads, include some excellent destinations for picnics or cafe lunches and conclude with a pleasant ride along the picturesque Yarra River.
The short ride provides a suitable circuit for families and less experiences cyclists, while the hilly terrain of the longer ride provides an excellent cardio-vascular workout, especially in the Husseys Lane and Hall Road sections.
Suitable for mountain bikes and touring bikes.

Our recommendations throughout the submission demonstrate our strong commitment to advocating for a mixed-use transit-oriented development due to the wide-ranging benefits to the community, environment, and local economy.
Our detailed submission focuses on key outcomes we're seeking, including:
- multi-level car park with increased capacity
- a mix of retail and commercial development
- public open space areas
- increased car parking spaces for bus commuters
- improved access to retail for surrounding residents
- improved public transport access
- pedestrian connectivity to be maintained and improved
- noise walls that meet the expectations of our community, and
- robust future-proofing for our growing population and evolving community needs.
Our submission also provides a detailed assessment of the UDLP, focusing on key areas across:
- traffic, car parking and access
- urban design and architecture
- open space and landscaping
- amenity
- cultural themes
- as well as other considerations.
We lodged our submission in September 2024.

What’s next?
NELP will consider all written comments and submissions received, then finalise the UDLP and submit it to the Minister for Planning for consideration.

Australia’s population is steadily increasing, prompting the need for new houses, shops and roads. While these developments are important for our community, they may have a negative impact on our local birds.
So, how do birds respond to urban development? Why do some species cope better than others? And what can we do to better support the more sensitive species?
To answer these questions, we’ve invited Dr Jacinta Humphrey to share her findings on what makes a residential street, urban park or private garden bird-friendly.
Speaker bio:
Dr Jacinta Humphrey (she/her) is an Urban Ecologist and Research Fellow with the ICON Science group at RMIT University. She completed her PhD at La Trobe University and continues to work with the Nangak Tamboree Wildlife Sanctuary.
Her work explores Biodiversity Sensitive Urban Design (BSUD) and aims to find opportunities to enhance habitat for wildlife in residential streets, urban parks, schoolyards and private gardens. She also monitors the Birrarung Trial Floating Wetlands, a series of artificial habitat islands installed in the Yarra River (Birrarung), on behalf of The University of Melbourne.

Bronte Playground, located at the southern end of Green Gully Linear Park was upgraded in 2010. The play equipment caters well for all ages and the areas also includes a hit up wall and basketball half court. Its main frontage is to Serpells Road but it connects to the north via Bronte Rise to Jenkins Playground.
There is a bus stop directly outside on Serpells Road and the playground is in the catchment of two primary schools. This locality is well catered for with play and informal recreation opportunities and no further development is required.
