Doncaster Reserve playground

This playspace has many fun play opportunities. Adjacent to the playground is some exercise equipment (and instructions) for adults which is perfect to meet up with friends and keep fit.

There are bus routes nearby on Doncaster Road or easy carparking on site.

Doncaster Reserve urban plaza

With outdoor lounge style seating, seating walls, picnic table and eye catching steel art panels, the area is one to rest your legs and bask in some sunlight. Doncaster Secondary College students have worked alongside an artist to produce custom panels to offset this space and tie in with the Oak trees, which provide shade and character.

This urban oasis is the first of five plaza spaces to be implemented as a recommendation of the Open Space Strategy 2014, and has seen this unused area near the Doncaster Road entrance, transformed into a space that is inviting and safe.

Doncaster Reserve offers football ground and cricket pitch hire options.

Bright and colourful play opportunities in a shady setting. It’s a perfect park to walk from home and have a picnic. Don’t forget to bring a ball.

One Tree Hill Reserve (formerly Berrima Reserve) links Berrima Road with One Tree Hill and provides pleasant parkland for the surrounding area. The Reserve has a non traditional play function with wooden sculptures hidden amongst the trees and bushland around the hilltop.

The sculptures were installed in 1999 and while these are aging and in some instances have been broken, they remain sympathetic to the character of the Reserve. The sculptures along with the views, provide a reason for people to visit the Reserve and explore the natural environment.

The Reserve is well used and loved by locals, mainly for exercise, dog walking and relaxing. The Reserve offers a high vantage point which is popular with local residents to watch sunsets.

One Tree Hill Reserve is two hectares in size, contains remnant vegetation and forms part of McIntyre Road, Biosite 19. The vegetation is considered very high priority in our Healthy Habitats Bushland Management Strategy 2012. Future management of the Reserve will reflect this.

Browning Reserve
… well located reserve for residents south of Serpells Road and the families of Serpell and St. Charles Borromeo Primary Schools.  Browning Drive …

Browning Reserve is a large (6,029m²), well located reserve for residents south of Serpells Road and the families of Serpell and St. Charles Borromeo Primary Schools.

It provides a pedestrian link through to Glen Orchard Close and there is a bus stop outside the Reserve on Browning Drive. Upgraded in 2008, the reserve is well maintained with attractive landscaping, good visibility and a playspace.  There are three other playspaces within a 400 metre radius.

Paths are in reasonable condition and are a mixture of asphalt and granitic sand.  Additional low landscaping to the Glen Orchard Close pedestrian link would also improve its appearance, but in general this is a pleasant and functional reserve and a low priority for upgrade.

Browning Reserve Playground

Children will love exploring and playing at Browning Reserve. The 'bird hide' cubby has a slide and cargo net and views over the swings, rocker and see-saw. There is plenty of seating shaded from the large Eucalypt trees.

Suitable age group: 1 to 6 years

Prowse Reserve is steep, with an unsealed path connecting Fernlea Crescent and Kelvan Grove to the Melbourne Water Supply Reserve, thus providing pedestrian access through to bus routes on Blackburn and Andersons Creek Roads, The Pines Reserve and The Pines Shopping Centre.

Paterson Reserve provides pedestrian access between Macedon Road and Glenair Court.

The attractively landscaped reserve has been referred to in recent Council documentation as Glenair Reserve.  However, in 1964 Council resolved that the reserve would be named Paterson Reserve after the family who originally owned the land.

18 October 2024

Council officers have today seized two dogs suspected of being involved in animal aggression and livestock losses in the Wonga Park and Warrandyte South area.

This action was taken this morning, after officers were able to formally speak to an individual who is assisting Council with our ongoing investigations.

We are assessing all available evidence. We encourage any witnesses with new information that could assist with our investigation to contact us directly on 9840 9333 at manningham@manningham.vic.gov.au.

16 October 2024

We are actively investigating reports of uncontained dogs, animal aggression and livestock losses in the Wonga Park and Warrandyte South area.

Since we received reports early last week, we have:

  • visited 26 local properties that house large dogs, including German Shepherds, to confirm they are appropriately contained and that the owners understand their obligations to contain their dogs
  • met with local residents, taken multiple witness statements and photos related to the reports – however, at this stage, we have not collected evidence that directly links the reported incidents to dogs from an individual property
  • been in contact with local police
  • continued to be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to attend to emergency reports relating to community safety.

We have not received any reports of further attacks on livestock or wildlife since Monday this week.

If you have information about this

As part of our ongoing investigation, we are collecting all available evidence and encourage any witnesses to contact us directly. Timely and accurate reporting will assist with our investigation.

Our officers are ready and available to follow up any new information and will meet with witnesses to take statements and gather evidence, once reported.

Direct evidence is required before we can take legal steps to seize or remove animals from a property. It’s important to note, social media speculation doesn’t assist our investigation, it can just create concern in our community. If you have witnessed something in relation to this matter, please contact us directly as we cannot act on social media content alone. Where we have sufficient direct evidence, we will take all appropriate and available actions.

Contacting us

If you have witnessed something, we encourage you to let us know as soon as possible.

If you have information or evidence relating to these incidents and that could assist with our investigation, please contact us on 9840 9333 at manningham@manningham.vic.gov.au

We have officers on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week to attend to emergency reports related to community safety.

Calls received outside of office hours, between 5.00pm to 8.30am and on weekends, are directed to our on-call after hours emergency service.

Ruffey Lake Park Masterplan update
… update The new public artwork has been installed, and we're about to begin working on the park's bridges and boardwalks. On this page All News … Ruffey Lake Park …
Article Content

Here's an update on some recent and upcoming works delivered as part of the Ruffey Lake Park Masterplan.

New public artwork at Boulevarde Hill

The new sculpture by Natasha Johns-Messenger was installed in June this year.

Named EllipseCircleView, this artwork draws inspiration from the panoramic views of Ruffey Lake Park. Its simple geometric forms encourage visitors to contemplate their surroundings and appreciate the beauty of the landscape.

Find out more about the artist and artwork.

Bridges and boardwalks

Works commencing soon

Starting in October 2024 and continuing through 2025, we’ll be enhancing the pathways around Ruffey Lake Park. These works aim to improve accessibility and connectivity, creating a better experience for park users.

Works will be carried out in stages through 2025, and will include:

King Street pedestrian bridge

We’re building a new bridge across Ruffey Creek to provide a safe and accessible all-weather connection for pedestrians. The bridge will offer an alternative to the existing narrow footpath along King Street.

These works will begin later this month and are expected to be completed in December. This schedule is subject to weather conditions.

King Street underpass widening

We’re widening the existing path under the King Street pedestrian bridge. The upgraded 2.5 metre wide shared path will support pedestrians and cyclists travelling through the area.

These works are scheduled to begin in 2025.

Quarry pedestrian bridge

We’re building a new bridge at the Quarry to provide a safe and accessible path for pedestrians. These works will likely begin in 2025.

Ruffey Lake boardwalk

We’re building a boardwalk along Ruffey Lake to create a safe, accessible, and visually appealing pathway that encourages the community to enjoy the lake and its surroundings.

The boardwalk construction is expected to start in 2025.

We’ll continue to publish updates on the works and schedule on the Ruffey Lake Masterplan Your Say Manningham page – subscribe to receive updates via email.
