Charity opportunity shops operated by the Warrandyte Donvale Rotary Club continue to be the target of illegal rubbish dumpers in Warrandyte.
Store manager Judith Lightfoot said illegal dumping has been a problem for several years and disposing of it comes at a cost to the community’s neediest.
“The sale proceeds from operating the op shops help fund Rotary Club projects, including paying the monthly rent for the Warrandyte Housing Support Services and donations to emergency relief including bush fire and flood appeals.”
People wishing to donate high quality items are encouraged to do so during store trading hours to ensure the items are not stolen, ruined or spoiled by the weather.
The two Warrandyte Donvale Rotary operated op shops are open from 10.00 am until 5.00 pm, seven days a week.
People caught illegally dumping rubbish at charity op shops may face a $295 on the spot fine, and if the material being dumped is considered dangerous the offender can be referred to the Magistrate’s Court.
Residents can report illegally dumped litter to the Manningham Litter Watch hotline, 1800 NO LITTER (1800 665 488) by noting the location, date, time and if possible, the car registration of the offender.
