Three-time Paralympic gold medallist and Get Skilled Access Founder, Dylan Alcott OAM joins Manningham Council to speak to local businesses about the cultural and economic benefits of working and employing people with a disability at the upcoming Inclusion@Work free Business Breakfast event on Tuesday, 8 May.

Manningham Mayor Cr Andrew Conlon said more than 4.5 million Australians live with some form of disability, including more than one million Victorians. 

“This business breakfast aims to increase awareness in disability recruitment and management,” he said. “It will also help businesses increase their candidate pool by 20 per cent.”

The event will cover local case studies, incentives and recruitment benefits for employers, support services available, networking and access to free ongoing training.

It will also feature a panel of experts including Dylan Alcott OAM on how employing people with disabilities can benefit businesses and the community.

Dylan said like anyone else, people with a disability can and want to work, but are faced with additional barriers when to enter the workforce. 

“We all have a range of skills, capabilities and interests to offer the workforce,” he said. 

“When given the chance, people with disabilities are 90 per cent more likely to be equal or more productive than people who are able bodied in the workplace. The retention rate is also 30 per cent more than an abled body person.” 

The Get Skilled Access Founder said it was important to raise awareness of disability, because people with a disability deserved to shop, travel and have careers.

As an inclusive employer, Manningham supports people with disabilities and provides opportunities to ensure they reach their potential.
