There will be no shortage of activities for families this Australia Day, with a Community Fun Day planned at MC Square on Friday, 26 January.
Together with local businesses and community groups, Manningham Council will host a series of festivities including live music, entertainment, and a range of food and market stalls on the MC Square Civic Plaza forecourts, Art Gallery and Doncaster Library.
Manningham Council Mayor Cr Andrew Conlon said Manningham Council will usher in Australia Day with a Citizenship Ceremony for more than 70 residents, followed by an afternoon of family fun activities.
“There will be activities suitable for children of all ages including a jumping castle, nature play, African drumming, a petting zoo and children craft workshops,” he said.
“The Art Gallery and the Doncaster Library will also be open, hosting a paint your own face activity and family games.”
Cr Conlon said Australia Day was about reflecting on what makes Australia great, celebrating what we have become and the diverse and inclusive culture we share.
“Manningham is an excellent example of how a diverse, multi-cultured and multi-faith community can live together harmoniously and learn from each other,” he said.
“According to the last Census, 35 per cent of our residents come from countries where English is not their first language, making cultural diversity one of our greatest strengths.”
MC Square Civic Plaza will be abuzz with activities from 2.00pm, kicking off with a special Welcome to Country and flag raising ceremony and the National Anthem.
