This year marks the 50th anniversary of the proclamation of the City of Doncaster and Templestowe. The anniversary will be celebrated on 28 February 2017.
On 24 January 1967, the Governor in Council issued a proclamation that from 28 February 1967 the Shire of Doncaster and Templestowe should become a city known as the City of Doncaster and Templestowe.
Prior to the proclamation, local government in the area dated back to the election of the Templestowe District Roads Board in 1856.
In 1890 the Shire of Doncaster was created and in 1926, it was agreed by Council that the name Templestowe should be added to the name and the Shire of Doncaster and Templestowe was created and remained until 1967.
The proclamation of the City of Doncaster and Templestowe was an important milestone in the history of the Manningham area and local government in this region.
