Beatlemania is sweeping across Manningham as Ss Peter and Paul’s Catholic Primary School students and Council’s Social Support Group seniors get set to perform the classics tunes together at the upcoming Modern Ageing Forum.
The Forum on Thursday 3 May at the Manningham Civic Centre, will feature performances by the intergenerational choir, presentations and more than 25 exhibitors providing the information on services and technology available to help seniors remain connected and age well.
Principal Anita Kelliher said the school had partnered with Manningham Council in a number of intergenerational activities including a gardening group, chess club and knitting club, knitting baby blankets for charity, St Kilda Mums.
“Last year our grade three to six choir, began partnering and singing with the Manningham Social Support Choir,” she said.
“The students love it and the seniors are so affirming. It opens up new ideas and choices in music, creating an opportunity for learning and developing an appreciation for the past.”
The interactive forum provides seniors and families across Manningham with information and advice on accessing services to remain connected in their community.
Manningham Mayor, Cr Andrew Conlon said having the right support services will help older people remain independent in their own homes and play an active part of the community.
“We know it can be difficult to understand and navigate the aged care system,” he said.
“We’re holding this Forum to help people find out what services are available, assist them with referrals and get better connected.”
There will also be a special presentation by Dementia Australia, Worried About Your Memory, to help people understand the condition.
Representatives from Eastern Community Legal Services, Doncare, Centrelink, Victoria Police, Energy and Water Ombudsman, senior groups and many more will also be at the event.
