Roads to Pound Bend Reserve closed during extreme and catastrophic fire danger rated days

To ensure the safety of locals and visitors, roads leading to Pound Bend Reserve (Warrandyte State Park) will be closed on days of extreme and catastrophic fire danger ratings.

On extreme fire danger days Parks Victoria closes Pound Bend Reserve, Jumping Creek Reserve, Koornong Reserve and Norman Reserve. 

On catastrophic fire danger days, Parks Victoria closes the entire Warrandyte State Park.

To support these safety measures, on extreme and catastrophic fire danger days roads leading to Pound Bend will be closed to general traffic. Only residents and essential vehicles, such as delivery drivers and emergency services, will be allowed through.

Closures will impact access to Taroona Avenue, Everard Drive and Pound Bend Road. Parking will also be unavailable at 90 to 92 Pound Road during these times.

The decision to close the roads was made by the Manningham Municipal Fire Management Planning Committee, the peak planning body for fire management in Manningham.

The Committee includes representatives from Manningham Council, Victoria Police, Forest Fire Management Victoria, Country Fire Authority, Fire Rescue Victoria.
 

What you need to know 

  • Road closures will only occur on Extreme or Catastrophic fire danger days.
  • Access will be restricted to residents and essential vehicles only.
  • Visitors will not be able to drive into Pound Bend or park nearby

Which roads will be closed?

Access roads to Pound Bend will be closed, including: 

  • Taroona Avenue
  • Everard Drive
  • Pound Bend Road 

Parking will also be unavailable at 90 and 92 Pound Road will also be closed. 

How will I know the roads are closed? 

  • Temporary signs will be placed on the roads to indicate they are closed.  
  • The signs will be placed in the most visible way possible.
  • Parking fines will be issued to motorists that park illegally.

What if I live locally? 

If you live nearby then you and your visitors will be able to use the roads to access your property. 

Is there somewhere else nearby I can swim? 

If you normally head down to Pound Bend on warm days and need to find an alternative place to swim then we encourage you to visit Aquarena Aquatic and Leisure Centre, 129-153 Williamsons Road, Templestowe Lower.  Aquarena is only a 15 minute drive from Warrandyte State Park Pound Bend Reserve and has an outdoor swimming pool.
