Gaming lovers will square off next month when the Manningham Art Gallery transforms into a gaming paradise for its touring ACMI exhibition, Code Breakers: Women in Games. 

The free exhibition, the first of its kind in Australia, celebrates the achievements of women working in the games industry. 

Manningham Mayor, Cr Andrew Conlon said he was surprised to learn that women made up less than 10 per cent of the gaming industry, despite representing 50 per cent of game players.  

“This exhibition will challenge stereotypes and celebrate the women who are building vibrant and creative careers within a global industry,” he said. 

“It also gives visitors an opportunity to get hands-on with an array of games, from indie to commercial hits and new releases.”

The exhibition features a custom-built audio tour, revealing the human stories behind the female makers working in this male-dominated industry. 

It also gives visitors an insight into game development and highlights the integral role women play in the industry. 

Code Breakers: Women in Games has been curated by ACMI in collaboration with an advisory committee and supported by the Victorian Government through Creative Victoria. 

The exhibition will show at the Manningham Art Gallery at 687 Doncaster Road, Doncaster from Wednesday 4 April to Saturday 12 May.
