We have begun the restoration works to preserve the historical and architectural significance of the Warrandyte Historical Society Museum. 

The building, located in the former Warrandyte Post Office, has a rich history, having been used as a store in 1875, and subsequently as Warrandyte’s first post office in 1889 and first telephone exchange in 1912. In 1972, the post office was relocated to its current location and the old building was transformed into a museum. 

The works commenced in mid-October and are expected to take four to six weeks. They include the replacement of external cladding on the western wall, refurbishment of the verandah, and repainting of the exterior to match existing colours. The restoration works are funded by our 2023/24 Capital Works Program. 

“The Warrandyte Historical Society Museum is a valuable historical site, and these restoration works will ensure its longevity for future generations to enjoy.”, said Mayor, Councillor Deirdre Diamante. 

We will minimise any disruption from the construction activity, with safety measures in place to provide safe passage for pedestrians or road traffic along Yarra Street. The works will occur between 7.00am and 6.00pm on weekdays and may require the use of one or two car parks in front of the building.
