About the 16 Days of Activism campaign
Each year, the 16 Days of Activism campaign runs from 25 November to 10 December, raising awareness and calling for action toward preventing and ending all forms of gender-based violence.
We’re committed to preventing all forms of gender-based violence within our community, and support Respect Victoria’s local campaign, Respect Women: ‘Call it out’.
This campaign raises awareness about what respect means, what it looks like, and how to put it into practice in your everyday life. It encourages us to call out sexism, sexual harassment and disrespect towards women. Go to Respect Victoria for more information about their campaign.
How we're working with local organisations to take action
Having so many touchpoints with our community, local businesses can be leaders in preventing all gender-based violence in Manningham. Recently, we supported our local real estate businesses to do just that.
Ten real estate agents from five of our local agencies, pro-actively joined our Manningham Safe, Respectful and Inclusive Real Estate Agent Project to build their capacity for handling family violence issues in their roles.
Our Gender Equity Working Group identified real estate as a vital business setting for improving gender equity in Manningham. In this sector, there is often significant gender disparity amongst senior roles, and potential for gender bias to exist between agent-client interactions.
Yarra Valley Water funded the project that enabled agents to complete a series of online training, plus an in-person workshop to unpack the impacts of family violence and gender equality from an intersectional approach.
Grateful for the opportunity to increase her awareness on the topic, participant Simone Bermingham said,
"I really enjoyed being part of the program. It was interesting to hear from all perspectives".
The course was developed and launched by the Real Estate Institute of Victoria in 2020, in response to the revised Residential Tenancy Act that introduced changes to the act around family violence.
This program is one of the practical ways that we’re working with our community to build our capacity to address gender-based violence. We’re proud of the below agencies commitment to reducing gender-based violence in Manningham.
