The summer program of events and exhibitions at Heide Museum of Modern Art has something for everyone, with the Heide Summer Festival already proving immensely popular and its major exhibition Joy Hester: Remember Me now in its final weeks.
Additionally, Heide is currently offering free museum entry to all Manningham residents from Monday to Friday. If you live in Manningham and would like to take advantage of this offer visit the Heide website to book a timed entry ticket and simply select ‘Manningham resident’. You will need to bring some identification with your address on it to show Heide Visitor Services staff when you arrive at your allocated time.
The Heide Summer Festival is being held in the gallery grounds in February and March and features free and ticketed curated programs of music, dance, storytelling and performance. Early events have been selling out fast, but tickets are still available for other events:
All the Queens Men | Saturday 27 February, 2.00pm
Part of the program presented by Heide in conjunction with queer arts and cultural organisation Midsumma Festival, visitors are invited to learn new dances while connecting with other LGBTQIA+ elders and allies at this lively interactive event presented by All the Queens Men!
Diimpa X Forest Collective | Sunday 28 February, 4.00pm
A Midsumma Festival favourite, Forest Collective will use their unique style of contemporary classical music to bring new and exciting sounds to the Heide Summer Festival. For this special event they will join forces with Diimpa, who draws on his experiences as a queer autistic Gubbi Gubbi man to create worlds through soundscape and sonic wizardry.
Opa! Bato | Sunday 7 March, 4.00pm
On Sunday 7 March, the festival closes with a Sunday session of contemporary Balkan brass music by celebrated Melbourne based band Opa! Bato, drawn from the rich traditions of Serbia, Macedonia and beyond. With its lively rhythms, soaring melodies and wild Turkish-influenced improvisations, this music has accompanied major events in the cultural life of these regions since the early 1800s.
Throughout the festival, Heide will be implementing current physical distancing and hygiene measures in addition to capacity limits in accordance with State Government guidelines.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions capacity is limited and booking is essential. Please note, the free entry offer for Manningham residents is for the gallery only and does not include the Summer Festival events.
