In 2019 the Victorian Building Authority conducted a state wide cladding review. While MC Square was the only Council-owned building in Manningham identified as having combustible composite panel cladding, it was noted that there was no immediate risk and no need to stop service provision.

We made a decision to engage an independent expert to conduct a preliminary assessment of MC Square in April 2019. While the independent expert recommended a partial aluminium composite panel (ACP) cladding replacement, we have acted with the utmost precaution and endorsed a full ACP cladding replacement in the 2021/22 and 2022/23 budget.

As a result, we will be undertaking construction works to remove and replace the exterior panels.

In October 2022 Council secured a contractor to undertake the work, and will aim to commence in December 2022. Works are expected to be completed by early 2024. A facade insulation upgrade will also be undertaken as part of these works to avoid potential disruptions in the future.

A part of the car park near the childcare centre will be used for storage during works and will be cordoned off. If further car parking space is required, we will keep you updated.

Community safety remains Council's main priority. Many important community programs and services operate from MC Square and we will keep tenants, staff and visitors updated as the project progresses.

Thank you for your patience while we complete this important project.
