With summer and the risk of bushfires just around the corner, Manningham Mayor Cr Andrew Conlon is urging the community to make a bid for some great prizes at this year’s Mayoral Fireball and support local CFA brigades.
Personally touched by the Warrandyte bushfires in 2014, Cr Conlon has dedicated the October 27 Mayoral Ball to raising funds for the Warrandyte Fireball Committee, set up to support local CFA volunteers through fundraising.
“The fires came within inches of burning down our family home before the wind changed,” he said.
“Unfortunately, three of our neighbours home were destroyed.
“I witnessed first-hand the powerful role our volunteers played on the day of the bushfires.”
Two of the three Manningham CFA brigades are volunteer-only and responds to emergencies within the community as well as deliver programs assisting in emergency preparation.
Cr Conlon said he wanted to support the CFA brigades and help them fundraise, so they could focus on doing what they do best – saving lives.
“Thanks to our supporters, we have close to 100 prizes up for grabs through the online auction,” he said.
Tickets to the Mayoral Fireball are sold out but you can still support this cause by making a donation at fireball.org.au/donate or bidding at the online auction at galabid.com/fireball.
