Did you know that every day around 20 Victorians will have a cardiac arrest, with only one in 10 surviving?
The best way to improve this survival rate is through bystander intervention. When someone performs CPR the survival rate doubles. It increases further if using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) or defib.
Ambulance Victoria has dubbed October... "Shocktober". Now is the time to learn CPR or how to use an AED or defib and become a #GoodSAM responder.
This month we installed 12 AED devices in Manningham to help improve those chances. Locations include:
-
Domeney Reserve (Park Orchards)
-
Currawong Bush Park (Doncaster East)
-
MCSquare (Doncaster)
-
Maternal Child Health Centre (Deep Creek)
-
Manningham Council Civic Centre (Doncaster)
-
Manningham Council Depot (Doncaster East)
If you are over the age of 18, willing and able to provide CPR, and are familiar with the use of an AED, you can register to become a #GoodSAM responder.
Registered responders are alerted via the #GoodSAM app when someone nearby is in cardiac arrest, and can perform CPR or use an AED.
Since the launch of the #GoodSAM app in 2018, more than 55 lives have been saved thanks to the actions of #GoodSAM responders.
