This year’s award offers a major prize of $8,000 and a general acquisitions and Valley of the Arts Award acquisitions pool of $6,000.
The accompanying exhibition of finalists’ work surveys contemporary studio ceramics from across Victoria, whilst also celebrating the important place of ceramics in the Manningham region.
This year's award is being judged by Robert Reason. Robert is the Curator of European and Australian Decorative Arts at the Art Gallery of South Australia, a position he has held since 2002. Amongst the many exhibitions of his that have featured ceramics, the 2006 Gladys Reynell retrospective and accompanying monograph was a highlight. Widely published in craft and design, Robert also lectures in Art History for the University of Adelaide.
Robert’s previous role at the Shepparton Art Museum saw him actively involved with the ceramic community and the Sidney Myer Fund International Ceramic Award from 1997 to 2002. He judged the 2012 Vitrify Alcorso Ceramic Award at JamFactory Craft & Design and the 2012 Cicely & Colin Rigg Contemporary Design Award at National Gallery of Victoria.
The 2015 Finalists’ work will be on display at Manningham Art Gallery from Wednesday 15 July – Saturday 29 August.
Award winners to be announced at the exhibition opening on Wednesday 15 July, 6.00 pm – 8.00 pm at Manningham Art Gallery.
